I wanted to do this, but I didn't know where to start either. My dad's cousin tried and he got a few generations back and kinda gave up. It is a lot harder then you think it would be and 1/2 of the websites available to help out there cost money and who knows if they would give you the right info

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.
not so sure im so interested in starting. but thanks for the links. i'm more interested in hearing any crazy stories people may have found out about their families.
my father did this when i was in grade school. pretty weird stuff, he traced our family back to england. apparently we are the decendents of royalty, dont know how much truth there is to it, but still somewhat interesting.
i've been interested in this. I know I'm part Irish and part English, so every once in a while I have to occupy myself, and sometimes even attack myself.
My dad and aunt are big into this, they have our line traced way way back - pretty interesting stuff when you start to find out little things about your great-great-great whatever - where they lived, worked, marriage records, criminal records....
I'm 100% irish, 2nd generation american so most of the research had to be done back in the motherland but the online sites are getting more and more sophisticated these days.

Surely if there was actual proof that your family were royally decended - your family would keep that eveidence? Also - the British royal are failry easy to trace - so you would be able to find that evidence fairly easy.
royal pain in the arse maybe??
....Freak in the morning, Freak in the evening, aint no other Freak like me thats breathing....
i dont really know anything about either side of my family history. my great-grandparents all died before i was born so all i've known and ever bothered to find out about are the two generations before me.
