iPhone - Hump it or DUMP it?

    What do you guys think?

Is the iPhone going to do to mobile phones as the iPod did to personal music players?

Alright, dear readers, you know the drill: proceed with caution. We have no confirmation here, but sometimes a tip is too juicy not to share, no matter how suspect it might be. A reader is reporting to us that a coworker's tech-unsavvy friend, who is regularly hired by Apple to do marketing photo shoots, was recently brought on to take some shots of "the sleekest, sexiest damn phone he's ever seen." The launch date? "Some time in August." Yeah, not a typo -- August. Now, to be perfectly clear, we don't know what the iPhone (if it exists) will be actually called, we've never seen a real pic of the elusive beast, and this doesn't really jive with the time frame suggested by Peter Oppenheimer's recent comments -- but we want to believe, and we don't have to wait very long for this one to get debunked or confirmed.

            ok?

i say hump it. maybe it will wake palm up and actually make better smartphones, seriously theyve gotten lazy and havent done anything really new for years now. btw i have a treo and will be looking for a new phone this summer. the only reason i wont get this phone is because of cingular, if it was with verizon there wouldnt be a second thought.

Re: iPhone - Hump it or DUMP it?

i'm not a huge mac os x fan, or anything affiliated with apple for that matter, but this phone is a bit more of a marvel than what people actually realize. aside from being an ipod in a phone, it runs full blown mac os x, not a mobile version. the resolution of the screen is far greater than anything else out now. the processor supports multitouch funtions (such as croping photos) and the email client destroys mobile outlook or any platform that palm is using at the moment. the biggest disappointment to this device is that it will not have a umts radio (provides data speeds faster than dsl and simultaneous voice/data)

i personally think it will be another razr as far as marketing and hype goes - but it should be. apple, love em or hate em, has released ground breaking technology that has blown everything else out of the water.

the major advantage to this is the fact that this will raise the bar ( no cingular pun intended, i swear ) for all other mobile manufacturers. this will light a fire under the asses of nokia, motorola, htc, etc. to go back to the drawing board and develop something just as bad ass.

looking foward to my vista mobile or minority report phone. shouldnt be long now.

Re: iPhone - Hump it or DUMP it?

I had a PDA2k last year - and that was the shit! I could play Age of empires on it - Snake can suck my dick. Althought it only had something like 512mg of storage on it - so I couldn't watch a movie on it or anything cool.. It was like 1/2 complete.

Sound like the iPhone has potential - I learnt my lesson from the ipod (you know how the first ipod's cost shitloads and were shit! I mean no shuffle! come on- not even a colour screen..) So I think like after about a year of it being on the market they will produce a really power polished product...

Unlike the Zune which came on to the market too late - That train has sailed. . .

Hump it. I'm going to be checking to see what penalty I can pay to get out of my Sprint contract when the phone comes out in June. Apple's got cool stuff that's innovative.

the iphone has potential but what the hell is it doing with EDGE?? the world outside is on 3G and moving on to 3.5G and they are coming out with a product thats stuck with a dinosaur .. replace that and we probably have a winner

it will have UMTS at some point, still June is the forecast date. I really do not care, because that shit is so slow. The whole PDX downtown is now WI-FI, so that is what I care about. Granted UMTS is faster, but still not as fast as I would want it. I work downtown, + wi-fi + iPhone = bliss.

when they decide to put in Wi-Fi instead of EDGE or 3/3.5G then it WOULD be bliss but for now they have to be content with the upcoming lawsuits that they are going to face

It all ready comes with wi-fi.

In regards to the lawsuit ... Cisco may be screwed. there is wind in the air that "iphone" was not followed up on, so they may not win.
