How to give a two weeks notice.

I have to give my two weeks notice but how do you do it to a company that has been more than good to you but you just have to leave to pursue other interets?

How have you guys tried to handle this?

I would want to use your current employer as a future reference so make sure to talk to your immediate boss and be nice about it. Don't do it through an email or vm.

Yeah, just write a resignation letter stating not much more than the date you will be leaving, try not to include emotion in it (whether it be negative or positive).

It's the only professional way to go about it, and I don't really know why you're thinking of other ways about doing this...

just say that you've enjoyed your time here and thank them for everything they've done for you but you need to move on and pursue other interests...in fact, if you know you're not leaving for longer then 2 weeks, do it now and it'll even look better that you gave longer of a notice.

Don't worry so much about it; if your managers et al act like jackasses after that fact, then take off sooner...you're moving on, it's not like your kid died or anything. The business will live.

Re: How to give a two weeks notice.

I've done this and being a manager been through this plenty of times. Let your direct supervisor verbally know in person that you will be leaving. You can either deliver the letter to him/her at that time or tell them you will get them a written letter of resignation asap. But, you must give them a letter of resignation. Type it up on word and sign it and deliver to your boss. If they're out on vacation, you need to wait for them to get back to let them know your intentions.

It's important that you are to the point and clearly state your last day of employment. I prefer to speak to the supervisor prior to writing the letter because you may end up staying longer than 2 weeks if they need help and willing to help them. If you must leave in 2 weeks, clearly and firmly state that you can't stay any longer.

                      Goodl luck!

Re: How to give a two weeks notice.

If you have established good relationships with certain influential people at the firm who could be of professional value to you in the future and you want to retain those relationships, you may want to tell them in person before submitting stuff in writing.

If you don't particularly care about that, post it note should do it!

remember to thank them for the experience and opportunity. Tell them your last day. Put your name at the end.
