How long do you think minimal will be arond for? LOL. Doesn't have what it takes to back itself up? This kind of music was here long before the splash came. Do some digging. Villalobos is some kind of new wave? Guy has been making and playing this music since 1993 and before. Check the real stuff...Dan Bell, Plastikman on Plus8 back in 1991 even. Lamian Dazarus on the other hand, and a ton of others,if that's the "minimal" you're talking about, then yes, riding the wave and doing a poor job representing.

Hell, in 1993 i was listening to Guns N Roses, so i certainly didn't know what it was about then, but man it's amazing to me how long some of these guys have been pushing that sound for soo long. Kinda a shame it's getting bastardized at the moment as some kind of wave. It's really cool tho when you go to a party and someone is doing it right tho.

And that's really how everyone should listen to music. House, Breaks, Techno, whatever.

at last some sense in this post, minimal has been around for longer than the trendy fashionable term "minimal music, like jenks said trak that came out way way back could fit into a minimal set right now and no 1 would know that the tracks over a decade old...i dont think the problem is the minimal music i think its the fact that the dj's playing it seem t0o be dropping quite alot of the same tracks to try to keep themselves in this tredy term "minimal" plus u have to look back @ what some of these dj's would of been gettin 10-15 years back, yup u got it, tracks of a minimal nature so its always been inthere blood, personally i like it but then again i have always been a fan of minimal stuff, if u look @ the dance music scene as a whole over the years then u will see that there has been many many fashionable phases like minimal, it will fade out for some dj's but there will always be dj's playng a minimal set as there has been for years

Don't get me wrong there's some mind blowing productions out there, in fact the majority of them are quite good. It's the sets I hold my gripe with more. They just seem very limited.
Who have you downloaded as of late? I really dig finding anything Heiko Laux, Dennis Rodgers, Bill Patrick and stuff like Pascal F.E.O.S. to name just a few. As Jenks makes mention, this style has been going on strong since way before the prog DJ's jumped on. Now it's just a bit more commercialized.

I've downloaded maybe 2 sets out of the P&R forum this year. Most of it is garbage to me. There was a thread here recently about some dude trying to get people to listen to his promo mix and i dunno who it was, but someone said something in that thread along the lines of "i'm not going to download your mix when there are all these big timers i'm listening to," ...pfft, wtf, that's exactly the problem. Everyone listening to the same big djs play the same big tracks. Get off the beaten path and you'll stop making threads like this looking for the next big thing.

SyntaxTerror: On that note, check out Jenks mixes... He's put some really well programmed sets together that might make you think otherwise.

Speaking of which, any recent mixes lately Jenks?

No. lol. I don't really do mixes. Anything i have is really just live stuff from Alphahouse.

I'll be recording our party this weekend tho.

Thanks.... I definately wanna check out a Alphahouse party, have heard some real good things. Nice to see it's on a Saturday as well. Any plans of doing a showcase in Detroit this year?

Edit: 3 am, nice.. The club I do most of my shows at will hopefully get its 3 AM license soon.

We're all going again. About 10-15 of us are booked. Drew is playing (butane) but no Alphahouse label party to my knowledge, but i don't know, that's all Butane. He's doing a label night in Berlin now, not sure what's on tap for Detroit other than carnage of the epic variety.

I know wmc gets a lot of the hype and it's the big power scene, but man i really encourage everyone to hit up demf at some point. Really a different beast musically. Especially judging by some of the posts here tired of the same ol same ol- check the 313.

minimal is just a return to detroit techno of the very early 90's.
Listen to Eddie Fowlkes or Drexia from that period - sounds really similar to the new minimal albums of gui boratto or anders illar.

I enjoy minimal a lot, but it is kinda like breaks to me. I want a break beat once in a while, but I do not want the whole to be in breaks. So ... minimal is in the same category.
