$500-$1000 can get a Forex account going, and around $3000 works for futures. Now by starting minimum you're not going to make a huge amount of money right off the bat. But you're also not going to lose a lot either provided you trade within your means through demoing and some real time (as the 2 are very different when it comes down to things)...
$500 - $1,000 to get started in Forex....$3000 works?? That's a recipe for disaster. Most people who are new to trading don't even use stops. You get marked to market on a daily basis and unless you got a fistful of cash, most will have problems when it comes time to cover margin.

that fund is essentially self leverging though, as it only picks up the top 500, and the tail end of the 500 changes frequently with high growers who cant ensure the financial report size that some of the top 100 do. in turn, it bounces out any company that is on a decline. very very good fund to put 100-200 bucks into a week.

Just stating that's the minimum on average to open an account; of course the mileage varies by brokerage used. Anyone new or learning would be extremely foolish (sadly there are enough) to throw in a lot more, unless you have it laying around collecting dust.

You're right, many who don't learn properly don't ever get taught about stops...man, that was the first rule I drilled into my head before I even got into demoing; that's probably the underlying reason how people blow up an account...things turn against them so badly and then they are royally screwed..(but it'll turn around, really!) I'll take a stop out on my trades any day of the week...I may not like it of course when it's a loss, but this isn't an ego-trip "I'm going to be right it'll eventually come back deal." If it's a sudden swing they tend to be a lot worse then where I set them...so the loss is minimized. Of course on the flip side, it'll lock in some profit when things head the right way. You need a robotic mind with no emotion not to use those and just flatten out whenever you feel like such.

Bottom line always, anything in investments, trading, the financial markets period, do your damn homework and diligence..not over analyze per say, but read up enough where you can then make a good, respectable risk-based decision FOR YOU (since nothing is ever guaranteed). But get into it if you don't want to live in the retirement years scraping by even worse then now, or better yet, working until you drop dead because you still need that "paycheck..." Because for many, that paycheck barely covers as is. Even if you're doing very well now with what you're making, that's just more incentive to get into it.

Finally, Jim Cramer is nothing more then a cheap shill who makes money on his calls through underlying payoffs...yea no one can prove it, but it's got to be there in some aspects...how else are his calls HORRIBLE half the time (like anyone else's really)...and say one thing one day, switch over the next...god if you were a lemming enough to follow his shit to a T, you'd be in major fucking trouble...

history does have a tendency to repeat itself...question is will it crash down before or after the next presidency

Even though there are corrections in place now, it can still happen, just would take a few days instead of a few hours...
