how do you use your CDJ's

Last night I was out at a club called Vision in Chicago for the DJ forum party. It the main room of the club they had Filo & Perry playing so while I was walking through the club to go out to the penthouse for the party I looked down over the decks (there is a cool spot above the booth) and noticed that the boys from New York did not have the CDJ?s in vinyl mode. is that typical? I have never noticed it before but when I talked about it to some other DJ?s at the party they seemed to think that it was common.

some people can mix smoothly enough they don't need vinyl mode. my 200's dont have vinyl, and mixing on them is like spreading half melted butter on bread.

                  rides something apparently

I keep 'em in CDJ mode with master tempo on which is good for a quick catch if needed without that bending pitch sound...

Vinyl mode imo is more for those who still enjoy cueing that way and also for scratching.

CDJ Mode is nice so that if you touch the top of the platter by mistake when you're a little banged up, you don't stop the record completely. IMO that's one of the big reasons ppl use it

And all the ppl I know who use Master Tempo do it because they're crazy about making sure everything stays mixed in key. I like things that are all in the same key as much as the next guy but imho the master tempo can be heard as a slightly whack effect on every fourth or eighth kick and it drives me nuts

I've always used CDJ's in vinyl mode cos Jon Lisle told me to the first ever time I played out on them.

                      Never even tried CD mode.

man, you can make correction with the platter in CD mode as well, so why use the friggin vinyl mode? Getting to lose that idea here that I need it...

I use vinyl mode. I feel more comfortable that way as I've been using turntables all my life!.

Me too, but you can make corrections by moving the platter forward or backward (rather than slowing it down as with a TT). I'd only use the vinyl mode for my release, I never scratch anyway. Its not vital IMO, but rather a question of personal taste...

I use the cdj mode, because really, let's stop pretending a cdj feels like vinyl. it doesnt. i use vinyl for that.
