Exactly. Musharaaf doesn't have control of his country. He has to tread the thin line between helping the USA, and not appearing to be bending over to the USA at the same time. Many of his people hate the USA and support Bin Laden. This is no secret, either. And it is also no secret that there are people in the Pakistani authority who are actively helping Bin Laden. For example, when Clinton launched cruise missiles into Afghanistan.... they made the mistake of telling Pakistan about it. Someone in Pakistan tipped off al Qaeda, and Bin Laden narrowly escaped. Musharaaf also has to deal with assassination attempts on his life. Pakistan is a mess..... So there isn't much hope that we're ever going to get Bin Laden. He will remain missing.... until eventually he will probably die, but we'll never know for sure.

I believe we would have caught him if we stayed the course in Afganistan and not gotten side tracked in Iraq. What a collosal fuck up going into Iraq was.

You are wrong. Bin Laden has not been in Afghanistan for years.... so spending more time/resources in Afghanistan would not have made an ounce of difference.

The major fuck ups have always been that we keep involving Pakistan. This dates back long before Bush ever took office. But, when we had Bin Laden cornered at Tora Bora.... he got away because we backed off and let the Afghan and Pakistani forces try to get him. This was a mistake, because we know that there are Bin Laden supporters in the Pakistani authority who deliberately allowed him to escape.

As of today, it has been 2001 days since we were attacked by Osama bin Laden. Where the hell is he? Why hasn't he been brought to justice? What happened to "Wanted: Dead or Alive?" It's not like we suck at hide and seek -- we found Saddam Hussein in a fucking hole in the ground in the desert, FFS. Bin Laden's on dialysis, that's gotta leave a trail of some sort.

The reason we haven't found him? We just aren't looking that hard. I can't imagine what else it could be.

Besides.... getting Bin Laden isn't going to change anything. Terrorism will continue. If anything, his capture or death will only bring about more violence. Our efforts are better spent focusing on state sponsors of terrorism.... like Iran. We should have been invading Iran before Iraq.

It's not about being good enough. It about being allowed to go where Bin Laden is hiding. It's kinda hard to get someone if you can't go where they are. If Pakistan would just allow our ground forces to go in, we could have Bin Laden in short time. Sure, he has some strong fighters with him, but there's no chance they could withstand a full-on USA military force.

We have been doing everything so half-assed... trying to allow the Afghan and Pakistani forces do most of the work. We should just do it ourselves, and get it over with.
