The decks in that club are OLD and have been in a smoke filled club for years along with all the other things that can happen to decks in a club that doesn't really care about the equiptment.
yeah, i can appreciate that.. i have heard horror stories of crappy equipment in clubs, or broken equipment, cd's not playing in cd players, headphone jacks being broken so you have to rig it with somethinig to make the plug stay in, lol
which blows me away at some of these places the mgmt is making $1000's a night.. suck it up, get new egar or put away the stuff each night so it doesnt get messed up

Sometimes the equipment is just crap! The problem I'm finding is that now most places I do play at the CDJ's are in use and the 1200's are for holding your cd case/s! I do it myself(put my cd case on them) but I still bring vinyl just incase there are problems with the cdj's or just to play some wax if the mood strikes me.

I'm worried that soon the clubs will just throw the 1200s out with the trash...

exactly, a little dumpster diving could be nice to salvage the decks. unfortunately these clubs would rather just get the money and run than investing it back into the club to help keep bringing the crowds...and therefore the money back.

well hard core audiophiles will swear that the CD is in fact killing music. They say that vinyl is the only way to go for the pure sound of a great recording, but in turn, we all can't afford 50K to begin building our home soundsystems. LOL.

um, and hell freezes over too.

Vinyl records aren't going anywhere. They may be declining as a choice for DJs, but sales are actually increasing on a commercial level. The collectors will never stop purchasing vinyl records because there is no better medium to collect. The full size artwork, the large tangible object of music, and the superior sound quality - cannot be replicated by any digital format.

The whole thing is a marketing scheme! And of course, the followers of America are jumping in head first. First they got people with cassette tapes, which sucked because of the rewinding and fast forwarding. Then came CDs, hey we fixed that rewind and fast forward thing and supposedly increased sound quality (wrong). And now comes the 'digital' wave - and they've got people buying the same thing they've already bought 2 other times on different mediums, again! Suckers.

Ultimately I'm baffled that the taste maker DJs would devolve to the digital format just for the sake of convenience and a loop feature - wow! And that's all it took for the bedroom and aspiring DJs to first accept the digital format in a DJ set - prior to that it was only circuit DJs that were using CDs in their sets - I'm pretty sure everyone bashed people that used them prior to this point in time - but now since Sasha does it, I guess it's cool. Let's not forget that these DJs may play digital formats in live sets, but they still collect vinyl at home and have not sold their collections on eBay (as many idiotic DJs have done)

I personally play vinyl records in my sets as much as possible - why? because the sound on a full scale system is subliminal and powerful and is not met with the digital format. The sound of vinyl goes through you and fills you up - whereas the digital format is heard in the air but it stops at your skin, it's not an enveloping sound like that of vinyl. Because it sets me apart from the lazy button clicking shopper DJs. Because it's the original and I like to keep it that way - it's never broke so why fix it? Because the digital format is over abundant and hard to keep sorted and sense of. Because the high end frequencies of digital formats bug the hell out of me - shriek, Give me some earplugs!
I do however play digital stuff because I'm in the balance record pool and unfortunately that is their medium of distribution, because it's easy and cheap. Not my choice though. I've also recorded all of my vinyl records just for the sake of having them with me on my serato, especially the classics.

I won't deny there are some nice perks to the digital format. Cheap, quick, and unlimited. It's also cool that small labels can start up digitally without any overhead and get their music out there. It's good for your own personal productions to play out as well. It's also nice to play my classic and rare vinyls on digital format so that I may preserve the vinyl for collection sake. But even on special occassion I'll still play the classic wax to keep it accurate.

So all in all it's not one or the other exclusively. It's just another medium with it's own pros and cons.

Nice reply Seth! You need to get Villo to come of some of the vinyl at balance, cause I'm sure he's still getting some tunes on wax. I have my collection and still buy vinyl, just not on the scale I used to, which sucks!

I am a huge supporter of vinyl b/c I love the feel and the definite improved sound quality that it provides. However, I have been using my CD decks a lot more than my Technics lately because it's SO much cheaper for me to buy tracks on-line that I can quickly burn and throw into the decks. I still prefer to spin vinyl over CDs and will buy tracks here and there online in addition to when I can make it to a shop, but for me CDs are a little more practical at the moment.
