Perfect beatmatching with vinyl is about 10x harder than with CDJ's... plus needles jump, records skipping, etc.

well look at the GU mixes, most of them were done by recording the VInyl into the computer, than doing the mixes on that. But I've heard people do mixes just as perfect on technics as well as cdj's. And who the hell has to worry about needles jumping on their vinyl...people who don't take care of their tools?

Well at home is one thing... out in a club is another. You are stuck using what they provide, and in most cases, a pair of CDJ's will be more reliable for you than 1200's... which is kinda sad.

believe me, if you're a great dj. you can spin perfectly on whatever a club gives you. I've got a dj here in columbus that can prove that, the guy can spin on absolute crap decks and make a mix that is phenomonal.

Well that's nice, but you've gotta remember that a lot of supposed "top jocks" really aren't that technically proficient.

                Tiesto? lol

I thought DJing was like riding a bike, whether it's 2 speed or 4 speed, it shouldn't matter... the end results are the same... you don't really "forget" how to do it or how it feels...

Most important reason for me to prefer cds above vinyl is that the vinylstores around here just can't offer the same collection as for example beatport can. I used to buy everything on internet via juno.co.uk but that became too expensive for me. Now I can buy twice the amount of music

^^^absolutely, your choice! I prefer CDs coz tracks that I play are simply not available on vinyls... I like digital labels, downloading tracks from the internet and so on...

believe me Caley. I had one time when I was doing my residency, and i actually brought a box of records just to see if i could do it...i wreked it so bad i finally said to myself....Damn i suck at spinning vinyl anymore...but to be honest. It could have been the slightly shitty decks i was playing on that night.

the last time i played vinyl was last wmc on the womb... i actually found it really comfortable playing vinyl again..it was weird, i thought i would be shite too..
as far as crap equipment in clubs.. most dj's should bring their own needles anyway, that should avoid a lot of skipping and what not unless you dont take care of your records which is just wrong!

I wouldnt agree with perfect beat matching on vinyl is any harder than on cd's.. beat matching is beat matching, if your decks float, get them tuned up and synched up together.

i play cd's mainly because of the music selection, the ability to make my own edits and the cost effectivness.. vinyl is obviously a lot more expensive than mp3/wav format, and a hell of a lot heavier! lol

i do miss coming home looking for the box of vinyl at my door

believe me Steve, it had NOTHING to do with the needles. I ALWAYS bring my own needles. I hate people asking if they can borrow your needles in clubs as it's kind of an unwritten law that you NEED to bring your own needles to clubs.

The decks in that club are OLD and have been in a smoke filled club for years along with all the other things that can happen to decks in a club that doesn't really care about the equiptment.
