True, but in these clubs we are playing our music on large scale sound systems that could cost far more than 50K. Doesn't the audience deserve the best

I know I'm stuck up about it, but I can always pick-out a digital track vs a vinyl track when listening to a DJ play at a club. Digital is all midrange. the bass is weak and tense and the highs are stunted and bright. I enjoy music too much and listen too deep to truly enjoy hearing it in the digital format. Believe me, I've thought hard about my decision to keep purchasing wax over the cheaper and plentiful alternative. Just keep getting convinced otherwise.

And honestly, records aren't That expensive. It's all relative. Hell at some clubs you will spend $10 on a damn bottle of water!

Has to be vinyl for me. Its all about the sound fella's. And really you dont have to have alot of talent to mix cd's , any one could do it, whereas not everyone can master wheels of the steel. You have to perfect on the decks if gig out or else you'll be laughed off the stage. As we've done with whales, lets protect Vinyl and get it off the endangered list. Remeber good DJ's play CD'd , Real DJ's play Vinyl.

my answer would be (because I would say the same thing as the above poster) :

For one, they've sort of lost the heart, and taken the easy route. As many others have followed.

Though, for Sasha & Digweed (and the likes) I'd have to give them the benefit of the doubt. They have tons of tracks that aren't released, so they don't play wax in the live setting. Convenient, cheap, and quick. But yes, still lacking quality. I would definitely appreciate their live sets more if there were some vinyl tracks being played. But you take what you get and make the best of it.

Back in the day S&D would press up acetates of the unreleased material they got. More involved which takes more heart. Though acetates are mighty expensive and wear out, they would sell for a pretty penny on eBay, hehe.

yeah you can see sasha's acetates on the delta heavy video. He must have spent a ton on those babies.

quick question, if wav is the master copy, how can it be a lower quality to vinyl. far enough mp3 are squashed down but wav is the original state, surely is loses quality going onto a piece of wax....

well most of the original recordings of classical music were to analogue tape that was 2 inches thick and played at a very high quality. Which in the end is probably still better quality than WAV. Plus the amount of post production on songs nowadays is almost nihl compared to ten years ago.

even a wav is cut up into splices like an mp3 is, just a lot more of them which gives it a more accurate sound than any mp3. But when a track is pressed to wax it then becomes an analog signal when played, which is an infinite signal with no limits or splices. Think of a sine wave. A sine wave in digital format will have steps in the line because it is cut into splices and then put together. the sine wave in analog format has no steps, the line is smooth with no jagged edges.

As well, the mastering process is different for vinyl than digital, which brings out different sounds.

In the end, the ears don't lie. I've compared these two heavily in listening (trying to see if the sacrifice and savings of digital is really worth it to me) and the difference is very noticeable. The same reason audiophiles still continue to choose vinyl even today. In essence the digital format is not the true recording but a close replication, the closest option is vinyl. Not to mention it's an official artifact of the music, a digital file is not.

I love when I hear this, probably once a month.

Re: CD's vs Vinyl and Why!

i currently use both, but more so cd's. This is because im not buying as much vinyl as i used to. my friend used to run an excellent record shop, but poor sales forced it to shut down. This is one of the main reasons that i am now downloading more stuff. I miss being able to go into a shop a listen to the whole record if i wanted too, rather than hearing little poor quality 2-3 min samples through pc speakers when buying online.
Another reason for buying the majority of tunes in digital formats is that i have turned up to a couple of gigs with no turntables at all, which pissed me off.

But having said all that, i've started buying vinyl online again because i still love the feel and sound of the stuff.

better sound quality than vinyl?? i don't think so...
I didn't read all through this so someone might have said this but cds are much higher quality. vinyl does not transfer crip high end and adds midrange to the song. How do you think the song is brought to the press?? On a cd.

With cds you get the track on cd you are hearing it exactly as the artist made it. Some people prefer the warmth that viinyl adds but it is not higher quality.
