no when the vegetation dies it gives off CO2.. Also volcanoes (Lets just say Mother Nature in General).. a lot of studies in canada are looking into CO2 affects on global warming and they are seeing that CO2 goes up 800 years after the temp has gone up..

Sun spots sounds like the big thing driving weather. Dr. Piers Corbin studies. and Solar Wind. Don't quote me on the vegetation because I've been looking more into Solar Wind and Cloud cover.

I think is real, but to some extent overstated. Recently came across this book "The Skeptical Environmentalist", which has a very interesting approach to this topic.

here's some thoughts that I have right now. it's late so they probably don't make much sense.

Christianity. God died for our sins, 10 commandments, the bible is fact/definitive, blah blah blah.

John Smith wrote a bible during a lone encounter with God while walking in the Garden of Eden (the woods in Independence, Missouri). He lost it, so he went back to the woods alone, found God again, and wrote another similar one which was equally as divine.

Fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard wrote Dianetics, which established Scientology... the religion which believes aliens brought us here on spaceships the size of jets, mass murdered us in volcanoes, and let our spirits find new bodies.

During the alcohol Prohibition 100 years ago, the campaigns attempted to advocate that alcohol consumption be limited to a minimum to prevent unemployed, broke, and thieving drunkards from being social nuisances. Eventually the campaign became politically driven and more organized, and people lost focus of what they were trying to accomplish. Political propaganda turned it into a full abolishment of alcohol production, which eventually passed and lasted for between 15 to 40 years (depending on the state).

Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. Let's invade Iraq and take them back before we're obliterated!

We're causing our planet to heat up, and will kill out planet if we don't stop. We'll call it 'Global Warming.' More political propaganda. Why do all these people actually think we're causing global warming? Because we were told we were by politicians and scientists. The politicians are giving scientists more money = more jobs = more propaganda. Just because somebody says something to you it doesn't make it true. The biggest problem with the world today is that we believe the most retarded shit a person could possibly say, and believe in it so much that we'll actually FIGHT for it.

Every one of these have good intentions at heart... they all aim at making us better people. Thou shalt not kill, love thy neighbor, don't let alcohol ruin your life, don't let destroy 1/8th of the planet because you don't like a person, make the planet a cleaner place to live. They've all just been blown way out of proportion until we lost sight of why it was actually created to begin with. Now they're all living beasts that we can't avoid. Seriously, the bible and the book of mormon are STORIES! Sure alcohol is bad for you, but we have control over it. Iraq didn't have any weapons but we did want to invade them. Smog can't be good for our lungs, but temperature has been fluctuating for millions of years. 100 years ago none of our technology existed but ice caps were still floating in the sea. Just because we're alive to watch a huge ice cap float in the ocean doesn't mean that we're causing it. It just means we watched it happen and we want to explain it. That's it. I believe in making this place a better place to live, so it's a better place to live, not because of political propaganda telling me that leaving my front porch light on is causing ice caps to melt at a profound rate or because my ULEV energy-efficient 2003 vehicle-inspection-passed Honda Civic is emitting too much pollution into the world. Let's make energy-efficient light bulbs so we can use less of our natural resources. Let's switch to electric cars so we can use less of our natural resources and get rid of smog. Just please don't tell me that global warming is destroying our planet because that's what 100% of the local news reporters channels are feeding you. Reporters write stories that convey emotion for the public. They aren't scientists.

I'm more worried about the planet being sucked into a blackhole than I am about the planet heating up to the point that it's inhabitable within our lifetime.

are you serious? you're telling me that someone saying the ice caps floating in the ocean is caused by us is different from someone telling you that scientology is real? each one is just someone that believes in it so much that they'll defend it without reason. I'm all for cleaning the earth, but don't try to trick me into thinking that I'm fucking the earth up by using my air conditioner when it's 75 out.

I don't understand you guys. where do you draw the line? at what point do you say "that's fucking ridiculous" instead of "oh my god, you're right!"

Asdf_admin, thank you for the bit from Noam Chomsky . It really sums up what that video is all about.

If you look at what is written etc, on global warning, can anyone really believe that the scientific world has more influence and more to gain by proving global waming is real than big business has to by proving it isn't.

Global warming had been a theory for years, and hasn't really been getting press coverage until recently. the gov't didn't make it up. in fact most gov'ts around the world are struggling to figure out what to do with this issue, except the u.s. of course. lol and scientists did not make it up purely for the hope of getting more grant money from the government. economists were the ones who put global warming up as the hot topic of the day. there were at least 2 major studies done by economists towards the end of '06 that said if something isn't done now to curb the warming trend of the weather, everyone would have to suffer the costs. Because believe it or not, magnificent animals like the polar bears becoming extinct by 2010 aren't enough to get the world's gov't attention, it's money. i can tell you agriculture has already felt the impact of the erratic weather. has grocery cost a little bit more than it used to? and since agriculture is the biggest thing most countries export, u.s. included (top three being airplanes, higher ed, and agriculture), this matters to the gov't and it should matter to you. your standard of living depends on it.
and just in case you need affirmation that i'm not pulling things out of my butt, and led astray by propagandist environmentalists, i am currently in vet school in upstate ny, and i get to visit all those farms that provide the millk and hamburgers you intake.

CO2 levels in the last 50 some odd years are higher than they've ever been.

We industrialized over the last 200 years and have been pumping out tons of CO2 in the last 50 or so years; levels which we never pumped out before in the last hundred thousand odd years we've been around).

If you don't believe in human caused global warming, than this is just a coincidence to you.
