The first few Kiss shows you can tell are not live because some of the songs arent even mixed.

I know John is an excellent mixer but you could tell when he played a live show because you could hear the pitch bending at least a couple times throughout. The ones that weren't live were mixed to absolute perfection.

What I'm saying is there had to be some involvement of computers in the whole process somewhere. I mean if he was on tour and playing vinyl back then how did he get new stuff to play every week and have it perfectly mixed for the show? I'm not trying to bash the theories offered so far, but I'm just curious how it all was done.

this i can answer.

when on tour or extended stays in america or asia, his AR guys would ship the shit out ahead of time to his hotels/friends. and he records his show early in the week so that they can edit in commercials. they usually have his sets by wednesday and they are then edited by the radio stations. from my little knowledge, outside of festival shows, the only show they ever did live (from a radio station studio) was the one they did here in Long Island a few years back on KTU.

Sightless - I'm impressed with the depth of your knowledge and research: respect ! This also explains why Fortier classically filled in for 2-hours while Digweed was touring.

but it comes from an interview on some computer MAC site i think. it was this 10 minute video interview about a year or two ago. the one where he said ""sometimes i jsut wanna tell ppl to sod off, but i just dont answer the phone."

i forget where the interview was hosted. but it had something to do with MACs or another apple product. someone will know.

^ mike - you're a little off the mark there mate, Digweed older Kiss shows were not selections from his live sets. He actually did used to break out a one hour mix every week (or do a few at a time). He told me this himself at a bedrock night back in about 2003

This same argument was going on in the late 90s when CD-decks began to emerge on the DJ-scene. They are a commonplace now and the uproar about them is years gone. Ableton is the new CD-deck. In 2011, everyone will boot up their Ableton at home when they feel like mixing...it'll be a non-issue then. The only reason Ableton seems like a dog right now is because we're in the midst of another technological shift...nothing more.
