made me wonder... Does Rockstar actually go out and research eastern european gangsters for GTA 4? Would they base it on some actual 'events' and 'characters' ?
Yes, that may be, but what % of the market share do you think Mexico takes up in comparison to the US? You need to consider that, as well as the poor reception of the ps3 in most other countries. You and your buddies may be sony fanboys, but if you do research it will clearly show that the ps3 is selling horribly.
It's not doing horribly everywhere in the world. In fact, the Xbox 360 isn't selling nowhere near as well as Microsoft had hoped. They reported the numbers recently and are trying to figure out what to do about it.
Another funny tidbit of info. is that Microsoft announced that they're leaning towards supporting Blu-Ray on the 360 even though they're one of the major pushers for HD-DVD.

In my own search for a wii, I constantly encountered shelves full of ps3's. While that isn't research I challenge you to find some info (that isn't coming out of Sony) that proves me wrong.
Sony has botched what could have been a gold mine for them. They have lost exclusive rights due to mishandling, and their inability to act in regards to their online multiplayer coding has alienated many developers. For instance Virtual Fighter 5. Who would want to buy a fighting game that doesn't have online multiplayer? In this "next-gen" that is simply unacceptable. This mishandling is causing developers who have traditionaly been Sony exclusive to think about bringing titles to the xbox. Think about it: why would you want to spend the large amounts of money neccesary to develop a good game if noone is going to buy it? The developers want to make money and Sony is not delivering. It has been rumored for a while now that Metal Gear 4 will be released on the xbox. If that occurs Sony is done.
And yes I can already hear the rebuttal...BLUE RAY BLUE RAY. But that is invalid to me. Well actually it will be valid for a couple years. But the future of home entertainment is not found on any disc. It is HD low priced digital downloading services. If you don't believe me see : Xbox Live marketplace, Apple TV, Microsofts IPTV, Tivo, etc.
/argument
well it's a pretty decent market share if you ask me, so much so that Microsoft is trying real hard down here with lots of tv ads and propaganda price drops etc... mainly because of the huge EA FIFA franchise demand which is like the best selling game in this territory.
anyway as much as I hated the original xbox I think I'm gonna choose the 360 this time sony is just getting lame the price is insane. I just sold my PSP yeah i bought it for like one game and that was MGPortableOps the other games are utter crap.

What does one system have to do with another? Nintendo has a great history of successful consoles...until the Gamecube fell on its ass...does that mean that the Wii sucks? Oh wait, you already answered my question.
No doubt ps2 is great, but not ps3 that's all i'm saying. and yes, as a proud wii member I can say it owns.
well, obviously this is a debate that could rage on. if you actually do research you can find data that supports either side of the argument. and if you are biased towards one product, then that will squew your judgement and objectivity. Of course you could say that ps3 is outselling xbox, it's a newer product. But I personally don't believe it, based on my own personal experience with actually shopping for consoles and paying attention to various media sources.
i still would go back to one of my original points that i believe that the xbox is a much more well rounded entertainment/media hub...which i think is importnat in the next gen. not one of the systems is limited to "strictly gaming". the 360 has some great features that have nothing to do with gaming, and work excellent b/c they are synching with another microsoft product.
dont get me wrong...i want to love the ps3. i love the ps2. but i think it is doomed to fail, and only time will tell. are one or two games like metal gear solid a good enough incentive to get me to spend the money on a ps3? No, nowadays most developers want to do crossplatform games and some of them (cough....virtual fighter 5, GTA 4...cough) have already abandoned sony on their exclusivity due to the ps3's poor sales or in the case of gta, sony's bungeling. is the blue ray a good enough incentive to get me to buy a ps3? No, b/c as i stated before media on a disc will be joining cassettes and vhs in the media graveyard in the next few years.
if you like ps3, more power to you. i hope you enjoy it and that it is all you hoped for. as for me, i'll stick to what i like: a gaming console with achievements, a great online community, that synchs media including tv with my pc, and the wii which is just a blast to play.
