Anyway....boys, go to torrentspy (or similar) and download the documentary called "the virus of faith?". Its a documentary Dawkins made that was aired on channel 4 in the UK last year that discusses much similar stuff

Aren't these book just like other political books? For example, the Ann Coulter book buyers are probably all conservatives and the Delusion readers are all atheists. I see these books as simply affirming what you already believe.

i will have to agree with that, most people buy the books to reaffirm what they already believe than to pick up new information that they might not know or should know.

Actually I disagree. I was raised Catholic, although I stopped practicing several years ago, but considered myself agnostic. This book, despite the fact that I'm not completely finished, has led me to believe that atheism deserves a fair look. Also bear in mind that the percentage of people, when polled, that claim to be atheistic is in the very-low single digits. Contrast that with the fact that Dawkins' book has been on the NY Times Bestsellers list for 28 weeks and has sold well over a million copies.

Besides, people that read the Bible are atheists too - they're athesitic towards Buddha, Mohammad, and the many gods of the Romans and Greeks. We're all atheists!

But the type of rationale that you guys bring up is much of the problem these days. Why wouldn't people want to challenge their beliefs? How can one form a valid opinion about something if they don't understand the entire issue?

And I also don't want you offending my conservative friends by saying that they're the ones buying Coulter's books - it's obvious that she appeals only to a select group of whackos. That being said, I've read parts of a couple of her books (again to challenge my way of thinking).

i agree with you 100% but i find this to be the exception rather than the rule. i have found that most people who i have talked to havent given much thought into WHY they believe things rather than just the fact that they have been raised a certain way and see no reason for change, dont forget people fear what they do not know and are resistant to change.

the real question is, why does anyone care what other ppl belive? leave it in your own mind, and allow ppl to keep it to themsleves. it amazes me, and i am 100% guilty in regards to CDJ's excursion, how many ppl try to prove god doesnt exist and the opposite. like, for instance, why in the world did this author take the time to write a book attacking other peoples beleifs? why does he care? and why do ppl like fred phelps give a damn as well?
