just to let u guys know about a slight change.....
just to let u guys know about a slight change.....
tomtom and i were discussing the bit rate of the kiss uploads and due to the fact that the origonal recordings are better quality from this week the bitrate of the mix u guys will download will be increased starting from this week, havnt made up my mind to do a 256 or a 320 yet, will decide this tommrow morning so this weeks mixes file size will be a bit larger than it usually is so dont worry
Re: just to let u guys know about a slight change.....
FYI: I am not sure if it is a local issue or the rip itself. There seems to be a huge quality dump as of late I listened to previous mixes to current and there is a huge difference. I am not sure if you are doing any editing before your finalize the mp3.
I guess I am trying to figure out if it is my system, my ears, or the source.
Re: just to let u guys know about a slight change.....
256 is too big. 320 is way too big. 192 is sufficient imo.
PS: dom(red1) you can NORMALIZE in soundforge and the volume will jump.
look under processes. to test it first highlight a small section and proceed with the normalize. from that small section you'll be able to tell if the volume increased enough for you.
or...you can start uploading me your recordings and i will edit them.

just thoughts.
yea i know how to normalize but i was always told not to use it during my studies for some reason so usually i shy away from it but if u guys want me to do this then i think i will, for the guys that have access to the ftp i,m gonna start uploading the origonal recordings for u if i can get tom to agree with me doin this for u guys, i think its a better sound from it anyway
Re: just to let u guys know about a slight change.....
the only problem that imposes is people will have to wait a little longer for the mixes.
small price to pay for quality though.
i usually dont get up til 1 or 2 on sundays.
it would take about an hour to download,edit,save,re-upload
so the mixes would be ready for general downloading by (or before) 3pm EST(nyc) each sunday
Re: just to let u guys know about a slight change.....
jib its not a problem for me now as i,ve fixed the prior probs with the dam conversion ( what a pain in the arse tbh ). tom was kinda keen that the bitrate was increased but i guess its up to u guys to make that choice, tbh i would like it to go up a little
Re: just to let u guys know about a slight change.....
maybe a low variable bit rate would be more reasonable that 256. you gotta figure it's gonna be about 130mb each for a 256k-1hour set. for those people on dial up, getting their weekly fix is gonna be painfully slow. tom knows this but he's german so ignore him.
Re: just to let u guys know about a slight change.....
i wouldn't use normalize either. for doing radio programs though. I would use a limiter, and pump up the sound almost to the top...then roll it back a bit and that should be great.
And at what bitrate are the streams coming from that you are getting the mixes. Remember, most internet radio goes as high as 192. And XM only broadcasts at 192 also. You just don't know that they do.
But there's not much sense in going above 192, as it would just be a waste of space for the server.
Re: just to let u guys know about a slight change.....
I love the better quality!!! If you're on dial up even 192 would be s a pain, and you don't have to sit there and watch it download
