I agree. Granted, I think Jesse and Al gleefully and unfairly blew this incident way out of proportion. And God knows there are enough other examples out there of hypocrisy, etc. But in general, this is not the first time Imus has said stuff like this and rubbed people the wrong way.
Just because Don has a legal right for Congress not to restrict his freedom of speech, it doesn't mean that he gets to sit in front of his microphone and spew garbage and be immune from any retaliation by society - who are, after all his listeners, sponsors, and employers. If you're on radio or TV and you make your living by taking cheap shots at people and calling them thieving Jews, lesbos, chinks, nappy headed hos, and whatever else he habitually said, then don't be surprised when you're eventually shunned.
I don't think that he should've been fired over this as a racial incident, but from a basic decency standpoint...can't say I'm really very sorry that he'll be gone.
