true, it's a tradeoff. Worthwhile for some, definitely not for me.

Interestingly enough, the people I have known in the field...they don't tend to retire at 40, even though they could. I guess they either love it or are addicted to the power and wealth.

its not all THAT bad either.

When you start out in i-banking, you're the bitch for the first 2-3 years (as an associate), then you go do your MBA come back and be an analyst for a few more years. You work less than you did as an associate (and give them all the bitch work). Then if you are good enough, you make managing director somewhere, and get paid rediculous money. You work even less, get the prestige part of the job, and get alot of corporate perks. Do that for 3-5 years and you can retire very comfortably (assuming your bonus was 2-5 mill a year).

granted...NOT easy to get into the field.

i'll be aswsociated with the firm part time, and again, ill still be back here doing tax returns next year, just not at a level where they can force me into working too much. i have a stake in the firm as it is, and im not selling it back, cuz i will be collecting money from an agreement we have about my equity. im just not gonna be the monday-friday, 9-5'er any more

I'm graduating this spring in accounting... going to get my CPA this summer (hopefully if i pass), Then start the job search in the fall... im scared shitless of the CPA, doing the becker review course... starts in 2 weeks. fuck my last term is going to be hell!

becker conviser is the best, i used them. good luck. and dont go to a big 4 firm. go to a mid sized firm, trust me they are courting us left and right. the industry is understaffed to a fault. but if you can find a small firm that will pay well and give benifits, take it. let them start you at 60'ish, and in 5 years, you'll be pulling in 80. but yeah, i am forewarning anyone thinking of getting into accounting.... dont.

and ddr, if you opt for a smaller firm, dont take first offer. let them make it worth your while.

lol thanks for the little late forwarn hehe.. but yea, thats what i want to do. midsize firm seems like the best fit for me. i have heard bad stories about deloitte and kpmg. not to mention pwc are a bunch of commies. i have not heard any bad things about the few mid-size firms over here in the portland/northwest area, so they will most likely be my first choice. but we'll see how things go. shit always changes

they knew i have been haivng issues with some of the help around here, and side issues with how things operate, but no, they didnt see it coming.
