So far: S?gol?ne Royal and Nicolas Sarkozy are going to be the candidates in the final round. I'm going for Sarkozy.

It's disgusting to slap a kid fullstop!! They correct thing to do would have been to hold him for the police. A grown man who has to turn to violence on an 11year old?????? Yeah it's disgusting.

Yao, there is nothing logical about it.

Re: French Presidential candidate smacks kid that harrasses him

Legal punishment? Yea right, we all see what that has gotten us. The legal way should not even be necessary if parents gave their kids a decent set of moral values, and I still stand by the fact that nothing has a better impact than the occasional slap -not to be used lightly, but definitely something not to be afraid of when your kid crosses the line. Because pain, but even more the sudden fright such a slap brings, has a very direct influence: you don't want that to happen again so you don't fuck up next time.

I'm not for slapping per s?, but I'm sure as hell NOT going to argue with my kid. I'm not his/her friend, I'm the parent FFS and if I don't do my job right then they will fail miserably in life. They will have to accept that until they're old enoug to contest the wisdom of my decisions, period.

Uh, are you looking around at all? I see parents ASKING their kids to be quiet while they're running around a shopping mall, or whining for candy or that kind of stuff. Do you think that's normal? I don't. I'm not going to ask anything to my child, the freedoms will come while they learn to accept their responsibilities, no sooner. You'll have to prove you're worth it, and earn them.

Because kids tend to see how far they can get, and by looking at the attitudes of today's kids it should be well clear to you that a 'best friend' approach isn't working at all. You know why? A best friend doesn't say 'no', doesn't send you to your room when you're bad and doesn't scold you when you've fucked up. They have friends their own age, at school. We should be parents, educators and guides and an educational slap when nothing else has worked is nothing wrong in my book. There's a difference between that and 'slapping someone around', so don't take my remarks out of context please.

I don't like the show, but look at Dr. Phil a few times and you see what happens when parents want to be their children's best friends. Assuming you're a woman, I'd never have you as the mother of my children. Nothing personal, I think you're a kind person, but just a fundamental difference of opinion

i'm not saying you smack your kid everytime they disagree with you or do some minor thing wrong. but theft is not something you take lightly. if the kid is stealing at 11, what the hell you think he'll be doing by 18??

you don't think a kid trying to steal from a presidential candidate (or anyone else) didn't warrent a good slap in the face? ok...

Re: French Presidential candidate smacks kid that harrasses him

OK, I think we have established two things! No1, I won't be breeding with any of you. particularly Yao, even though I've proved I'm good at it!!

No 2 We are probably not that fair apart in our philosophies. In one instance it's different interpretations of best friend, "A best friend doesn't say 'no', doesn't send you to your room when you're bad and doesn't scold you when you've fucked up." I think all these things can be done, and should be done by a best friend.

Maybe we see things differently, I totally agree that children shouldn't be allowed to run wild and in fact I very rarely see that happening. Though kids do have to learn appropriate behavior and sometimes they get it wrong the way we do. [Except we may be drunk at the time

Re the smacking , I have smacked my son, but to be perfectly honest it was nearly always my anger rather than for his own good.

The big difference here was that it was a stranger. If a stranger touched my child I'd kill them!! Actually I probably wouldn't but I'd want to.! Also he hit the child around the head which is a total no no.!! It's doesn't take much to do damage.

day for night, you don't think a little trip to the police station just might be more appropriate than letting them think violence is the answer??? If we react violently we are teaching them that's it's ok.
