    Proview Flat Panel LCD TVs

Anyone have any experience with Proview? I found a 30 inch LCD TV - HDTV DVI-I w/ HDCP - Resolution (Max.):1280 x 768 for $539 with free shipping today on the net and am damn near convinced of buying it. Any thoughts?

Also just found a ViewSonic 37" LCD HDTV Display 1000:1, 1360x768 with Speakers- $779 with free shipping. Comparison/contrasts?

Also, any major concerns in LCD vs Plasma?

Honestly, I'd pick the ViewSonic over the Proview. I haven't heard great things about them (Proview) and from what I've seen, they're mediocre at best. You'd best be going and actually looking and comparing the two. We're in the market for a new plasma screen on our bedroom wall and will be getting a rear-projection DLP tv for the living room soon. The prices just keep dropping massively.

I wouldn't go for Proview either. Got a BenQ LCD and I'm very happy with it.

Beanz, a rear projection DLP tv? You've gotta be kidding me. Those things take up too much space and deliver (imo) shit quality. I'd go for a beamer instead...

The DLP's are much thinner than normal rear projection sets, and you get a lot of bang for your buck. Personally, I have a 55" RP, a 50" plasma, and a 62" DLP, and the DLP has the best picture, IMO. If it's part of an entertainment center, it really doesn't much matter how deep it is.

Re the LCD v Plasma, I think it's a matter of personal preference. If you're in a room that can be bright, I'd recommend an LCD. Plasmas handle on-screen motion better, though, and you can get a larger screen for your money, so if the room it's in is darker, you'll be fine. Plus, I think plasmas have blacker blacks and whiter whites. It really is what you prefer, though.

Regardless, I think it's worth paying a bit more to get a brand that's been around for a while and that you trust. My $.02.

What I've heard about Plasmas' is that they give out too much heat and they dont last you for ever or compared to LCD's, not as long as those. just what I've heard from people who have owned them.

I got myself a 56 Samsung LCD DLP HDTV 1080p and it's awsome.

TigerDirect.com has deals pretty regularly. Here's what they're running right now:

Really, though, I think a TV is something you really ought to buy in person unless you know exactly what model you want. When you see them next to one another, it's amazing the difference between TVs that would otherwise appear to be equivalent.

I've been doing the research and for the living room, we're definitely going with a rear projection DLP for sure. Been looking at a Mitsubishi 65" and the revamped model of the Medallion series I was looking at came out earlier this year and the price has dropped massively. I believe I can get that 65" for under $1950 with delivery and lately they've been throwing in the stand for free which is pretty fucking hot. We're gonna go shopping this weekend for sure. For the DLP haters, you seriously don't know what you're talking about if you think the picture quality is shit unless you were looking at Sony's Bravia line. Those are horrid. Very bad color quality and the contrast is disgusting. I can't believe that people are into those at all. Especially, with how much more they cost.
In the bedroom... heh heh... we're gonna go plasma for sure on the wall for size and since the kids won't be in there watching, we won't have to worry about side viewing angle at all.

I almost forgot. The Mitsu is like 13 inches deep and only weighs 87 lbs. That is freakin' light.

cant believe you'd compare a Mitsubishi and a Bravia lineup in the same breath and then call Bravia the shit one

.... I bet you also picked one up at the local Fry at 1/3rd the price

I know I'll get called out for trying to praise Sony's in this post but my last post was doing a comparison between the Panasonic and Sony's. Yea sony's are useless but only for a "dollar value" basis. Not cause the Wega engine is worse than Mitsubishi.

Been to many shops, compared many of the same signals and altered the settings. The Sonys always performed lower. They've recently slashed their prices too. Still doesn't make it worth it to pay for a lower quality picture.

then there must be something glaringly wrong with how the Sony's have been setup at the stores you visited them. And yes they slashed their prices to introduce their latest line of LCD Projection TVs as an introductory offer (I know that cause my cousin just picked up a 55" Wega not 3 days ago). I can't imagine correlating that to the fact that they have been poor performers and Sony are trying to get rid of excess inventory.

I shopped and shopped for LCD's and it came down to the Mitsubishi & Sony. I prefer the aesthetics of the Sony (black matted frame) and the picture quality is a wash. Both are excellent televisions. If the Sony's you have seen in the store have not measured up the other televisions on display it's because they have not been calibrated correctly. I went with the Sony 46 inch 1080p and love it.
