not terribly uncommon nowadays though...many, if not most, job applicants lie as a matter of course.
"Work like you don't need the money.
Love like you've never been hurt.
    Dance like nobody's watching.
    Sing like nobody's listening.
Live like it's Heaven on Earth."

but surely personal capacity should count for something here?

she has been recognised as being good at what she does.

^^^ I don't support lying but she has proved over 28 years that she can not only do the job, but do it superbly. Makes you wonder how much a degree is worth, just a piece of paper ?????

              .

What if you interviewed for the same job as her 28 years ago and had similar credentials as the perpetrator did, had a more successful interview, but because of the resume she falsely submitted you were not given the job. What would be your response?

Cheating on a resume is no different as a professional athlete using steroids.

I am getting sick of this dualistic thought process polluting our culture. The means does not justify the end.

If that is the case fuck business school, go for a drama degree.

              My thoughs that all . . . .

Re: MIT dean resigns in lying scandal

I'd generally agree. Lying is likely to eventually catch up with you. She was probably unusually lucky that she made it as long as she did. When you interview these days (in the United States, at least) the first thing that your prospective employer will do after they choose you for the job is obtain your consent to go digging through your past public records. That includes degrees, addresses, criminal records, credit scores - you get the picture.

Aside from making sure you're not a cocaine snorting child molester, your employer is also in a perfect position to check any of the blatant shit you made up on your resume - such as where you went to school, what your GPA was, where you worked and when, etc..

So, one has to be a real moron to do this kind of stuff these days and expect to get away with it.

Oh they HAD the choice. They could have made the story quiet and just kept it between her and them.

And yes it is a piece of paper...but it's the meaning behind that paper that counts.
