First time since 1919! I sure hope it doesn't last as long as the MLB strike 10 years ago but it doesn't sound promising.
That shit was official 2 years ago, when the owners started complaining that they were not rich enough!!! FUCK THE OWNERS!!!

On an unrelated note, Civic-Zen, I love your avatar!

Bettman said teams had combined to lose more than $1.8 billion over 10 years, and that management will not agree to a labor deal without a defined relationship between revenue and salaries.

Hmm...not sure what kind of business you're in but if I was losing an average of $180,000,000 per year I think I would want to shutdown too! I'm not saying that the owners aren't greedy bastards, nor am I saying that the NHL players don't deserve the money they earn, but clearly something has to change.

Last lockout: The 1994-95 season. It lasted 103 days and cut the regular-season schedule to 48 games per team that were played solely within each conference.

The players and the owners are to blame for this. It's the owners faults for paying the players such ridiculous contracts. And the players are just downright greedy now. You think a couple million a year would be satisfactory. Or even having the chance to play in the NHL. Think of all the people who wish they could play pro and can't. If they love the game that much they should take the salary cap and be done with it. Now with a lengthly lockout a lot of teams will fold under the pressure of a work stoppage or lose any type of fan base they have built over the years.

              This is very depressing!!

Every sport ought to follow the model of the NFL to the extent possible. They have put all the teams on roughly the same level, and it shows in the level of competition and the constant changing of the guard, and gives fans reason for hope every year. I don't purport to know HOW it all works, but it works and works well.

Are you ready for some football?!?!?!?!?

I know there is going to be a 4 on 4 league that some of the players have started due to the lockout. It is supposed to start at the end of this month. I am not to sure how far it will make it down in the States but I know where I am we have at least 1 game scheduled so far. It should be interesting.

keep them locked out.. They only play a sport and get payed way to much money.. I agree pay them but make a salary cap with a contract for 5 years with a max salary of 10 mil a year.. they don't deserve more then that come on..
