No, but it as a subculture it defines who you are and what you do to a significant extent.

For example: if there was no EDM, I'd probobly be hearing a lot better right now (no shit)...

      man you've got that right.

i think my hearing has gotten pretty bad, in good part to loud music, 90% of that being dance/electronic music that i like so much. i used to absorb myself in my good headphones in college when i was trying to study, do homework etc, to block out all the annoying crap around me. i still do the same now at my desk job unfortunately since i have about 6 ppl who sit close to me and are always talking, and one happens to be a chick who bitches 24x7 and i gotta get away in music before i go crazy.
plus when i get home i listen to stuff all the time pretty loud, and in my car on the way home.
even before that i think i have had ear probs, i think i have some mild tinnitus. high pitched ringing in the ears all the time, day and night. i usually can block it out, but in the last couple of years it seems to be more noticible to me, mainly when it is super quiet like going to bed, etc. i think my hearing is going b/c if there is a lot of background noise i have a hard time hearing ppl and have to ask them to repeat themselves alot and even find myself flicking my ear forward like some damn old man.

yup i am pretty sure i have had it since i was a kid. it has been noticable but not so much where it drives me insane like i hear some people have it, which would be terrible. i dont know how bad it has to be to be classified as tinnitus, but i know i have always had a ringing in my ears even before i listened to any loud music much.
i need to go in for a hearing test to see what the deal is. i hear caffeine exacerbates the problem, which isnt good in my case since i drink way too much soda...

I'd be in serious trouble. Not because music is my life, although for a time it was. Seriously though, as a web application developer and web designer I have a difficult time staying focus. I get some good beats going though and I'm able to tune out my busy bee brain and get solid work done. Also, it has a calming effect for me when I'm getting upset, and those closest to me know I've always struggled a bit with a minor anger problem.
