    well said and so true.

But I am left with a question I've always wondered, at which point do the average muslim stop tolerating this political game played on by their governments and fundamentalists and actually start doing something about it. I keep looking at the situation in Palestine where unfortunately the people are stuck between a rock and hard place. On the one hand is Fatah, which has been nothing but a corrupt party where they literally siphon money away from the people, and Hamas, which has taken care of many of the people's needs, but stand on a completely hateful position. An unfortunate lose-lose situation for them.

As soon as they the next thing they see when they open their mouth won't be the barrel of a gun imo.

true, but at some point you have to be willing to to recognize that these fundamentalists are putting your lives at risk and destroying your way of life and that is a reason worth fighting for. Also there's strength in numbers which hasn't really been used in that region in a long time.

I meant a gun with a fundi at the other side actually...

Strength in numbers... How do you get that? By breeding goodwill amongst the population. Guess what for example Hamas has been doing for decades now? Building hospitals and schools, fuck, an entire social supprt network for the population. Watch Syriana, that's exactly how these fucks rally people.

Imo the only solution is humanitarian and structural support next to military action. Not only to counter the fundi PR techniques, but also because I don't think anyone would give a hoot about democracy when grenades go off around your head or when you don't have electricity or running water...

Yup, get the hell out. At one point I was surprised to hear about a bombing. Now it is daily and I just wait to hear what the tally is for that day.

You bring up a good point, but it draws so many parallels with the corporate american side, it's worth noting. At what point do we stop tolerating our own government's political game and do something about it (Iraq war). You know our government sets us up with the illusion of safety and a good life while simultaneously breeding support for a war that is wrong. I say, if we haven't impeached our president already, then we have no right to ask questions of the people under the Islamic fundamentalist rule.
              Cheers!

I certainly agree with you there...an interesting observation is that without the draft during the vietnam era, America would probably have been left in exactly the same pitiful spot that we are now. Another interesting result of not having the draft during that era would be that all the late 60s and early 70s protesting and it's results would never have occured.

The only difference and this is where the democratic function comes in useful is that every 4 years we at least have the opportunity to vote for a different leadership (though admittedly a majority nonetheless voted for Bush in 2004 before a full understanding of how bad Iraq would turn out and just how far we were misled into the war was known).
