Pretty much when they went into liquidation. I think its much more run like a bussness now. Most of the artist they use now they know are going sell volumes and make money.
why should it be the new GU, why can't it just be it's own thing. Frankly I think they are in a class all by their own. They are helping to give great dj's a chance to finally have a great mix cd out. Now some of them have has the Bedrock OS series, but these cd's are in their own place. There is no competition.
For me, in the beginning, GU was a way of life. It was a representation, a snap shot if you will, of that moment of time in my life. The late 90's-early 2000's sound is failry dead for the most part, although some artists are still banging it out (thankfully). I, at one point, had to let go and move on- and the balance series is that for me. Yes, the classic GU's are in a class of their own, but I disagree, I think there is a lot of competition for latest GU releases and balance is surley giving them a run for their money. Besides, that Florida crew deserves every bit of it. You gotta give Chris, Jimmy and all of them a lot of credit.
the Balance mix cd series (with latest release Luke Fair) is not the same as the Balance Chris Fortier runs.
which btw, the Balance Fortier runs is now called TCA (the collective agency)
to my knowledge that Balance only ever put out promo mixes by their dj's, not actual compilations.

Thanks for pointing that out Jibby. I was always under the impression that the promos I used to get were the start of the series. Did some digging and found Balance's MySpace site which gives some background info. I had no idea, or guess I had my own idea.
