    DEMF reports!

Got back yesterday from DEMF - had to come back early unfortunately and miss the best day (school...). But, I'm glad I got to chill all day Sunday and see some great after parties as well.

I'm working on pictures, but basically I checked out...

    Gui Boratto
    Mathew Jonson
    Audion & Ryan Elliott
    Mistress Barbara
    Mathew Jonson
    Michael Mayer
    Steve Bug
    Troy Pierce (afterparty)
    Baby Ford
    Seth Troxler
    Lee Curtiss

    A few thoughts:
Festival: All in all, pretty good performances. Highlights for me: Michael Mayer and Steve Bug. Mayer was SICK Just, wow...if you have a chance, definitely go check him out live. Steve Bug was also really good, played to a completely packed house and kept them enthralled with all vinyl and some serato, so extra props for that (must've been hell beatmatching in that tent, too). Gui Boratto was also good live and had a great response, but you knew what he was gonna play next anyways.

But the highlight of the trip was an afterparty at this place called the Old Miami - Seth Troxler, Lee Curtiss, Troy Pierce, Matthew Dear among others...and it was one of those experiences where you get the perfect group of real music heads in the perfect place, perfect vibe... One of the best parties of the year for me - was like Pawn Shop last year at WMC, but dirtier

So that was that. Wish I could've seen the Minus crew and Luciano and Loco Dice on Monday, but at least I've seen em before.

Anybody else go? Thoughts? Reviews? Pictures?

        ROCKED:

-seth troxler @ the real detroit tent. holy fk that sound system! seth is playing some straight up sleezy techno. such a good dude/dj. that whole 4 hour detroit guys block with seth, ryan, lee curtiss, dear, and elliot was really cool while the monsoon was dropping outside. that's about all i could take of the real detroit sound system tho. It just beat you senseless. If you get a chance to see any of those detroit guys, do it, they're dropping some of the best music i heard at the festival. We had lee curtiss in the weekend before for Alphahouse in STL and his live set is sooo good and different every time. rspkt.
-butane @ beatport tent -STL/Alphahouse rep!!
-Guido Schneider- impressed- figured he was going to play his plink plonk sound back to back to back, but he didn't. Rocked it out. Nice.
-higher intelligence agency @ pyramid stage- (pyramid was the best place to hear music the entire festival. right on the water facing windsor, amazing sound, sun peering down, techno jams.)
-baby ford @ pyramid stage - PEERLOOON!! - (glad to see some perlon representation this year, quite down in numbers from last year's festival where it was the Perlon party) ...Baby Ford was followed by, gui boratto, then some of Mayer- nice block of techno in early evening sun.
-a guy called gerald @ main stage- went looking for someone i'd never heard, and found it. loved it.
-Rhythm & Sound front man in the pimped out purple suit.
-Seeing and meeting friends from all around the states again. Really makes these events so much fun. It's like a big reunion. The festival itself was 1000 times better this year and the beefed up sound made a huge difference.

        SUCKED:

-Those fucking tickets at the festival!! DEMF isn't cheap anymore.
-Hawtin - so boring. Glad we skipped the MOCAD party. Yawn minus.
-the beatport tent. I thought it was a pretty poor layout. There was a huge deadsport front and center where all the mids and punch just dropped out of sight. I like that they tried to make the grassy waterfront area part of the tent by facing the booth that direction, but the only place you could get decent sound was to the far left or far right inside the tent.)
-booka shade (gave em a shot, still don't get the hype)
-jeff mills closing - i might have just had enough techno by 10pm on monday, but i didn't think that sound went down well on the main stage, sounded sloppy. To be fair tho, everything after Old Miami was a tough sell to my ears.
-Funkshun-one's main stage sound set up? That's it?? I expected more. Last year's non F1 sounded better.

        Above all-

Seth's afterafters @ Old Miami - Fking awesome!! Once again, he nailed the dope spot for an amazing afterafter party in the sun. That old VFW post ruled. Stayed from the first beat to the last. Wish i would have had sunscreen, my brain wasn't the only thing that fried that day. Butane [alphahouse reprazent!!] and Sety from circus company rocked the deepness, i'm all over that sound. Didn't feel Losoul's live set that much after tane and sety, was ready for something else. That's not to say it wasn't good tho. The Pierce, Dear, Butane, Elliot tag was awesome/hilarious. "Who can drop the bigger bomb!" and the scoring cards, lol. Such a great time. Didn't get much sleep those three days- feeling it today.

        Really enjoying the silence today.

Ah...I heard the three of em only once before - together at Pawn Shop last year and it seemed a pretty good set from what I could remember, particularly Luciano.

Totally agree that the afterhours at Old Miami was beyond dope And now that I think about it, we may well have been standing right next to each other without even knowing. I was there from about 9 to 1 (woulda stayed longer, had to go home). Were you hanging around with Mnookin, Delassandro, or Sue at any point during that event?

are you serious? quite easily some of the best sets of the festival imo, between Gaiser, Locodice, Luciano, and Hawtin I didn't leave the Beatport tent all of Monday night.

                  amazing.
