Was watching CNN this morning, and they had an interview with the kid that won the spelling bee. Here's the story:
I can't find the interview itself online, but did anyone else see this? No joke, I had the distinct impression when I was watching this that the kid was some sort of autistic savant. He clearly had no social skills whatsoever and made some really unusual body gestures over the course of the interview, but he's obviously got this spelling thing wired. I guess he was home-schooled, which could explain the absence of any social skills, but I was still really left with the vibe that this kid was kinda vacant and wasn't 100% dialed in to what was going on around him.
If he was a high-functioning autistic kid, though, I would assume they would have made mention of that. Oh well...
