i got a chance to see him in Denver, at a venue called the church. It was an awesome night. Desyn played a sick opener, and digweed came in just as rocking. all in all i think he played some really good tracks, but they could have been darker and more nasty. However, i did manage a signature.

Fuck Yeah...we caught Diggers in Miami 3 weeks ago and OMFG. The place went off. Definitely a night I will remember the rest of my life. The Vibe was great and Diggers just ate it up. Wish I had a camera for after the show though...we went back to the hotel (The Clay Hotel) across the street...being all ate up and shit...we decided to take a walk on the beach about an hour later and what do you see...The man himself leaving the club...the funny part was the chick that he was trying to fight off while getting into his ride. He already had three hot chicks in the back seat waiting for him and he literally had his hand in this other chicks face trying to push her out of the car...it was priceless. Guess he already used and abused her and he was not having anymore of it. Needless to say...Diggers was the victor as the car sped away leaving the chick behind with a tear in her eye.

yeah, that's the guy that won the DJ mix comp to open for him. someone just posted a link to his set for DL in the forum...

see kids, all that time spent in your room "playing records" really does pay off. it pays to discover.

He use to go to ALL of the Goth clubs here in L.A. that is where I met him, although he doesn't remember who I am. Then he got into our music, eventually moved to Chicago... and ther rest is history.

Re: Anyone seen Digweed US tour?

Just saw him in SF (Mezzanine). I've seen diggers five or six times now.

                      Here's a few takes:

The venue was packed and full of great energy. JD came out at about 12:45. I managed to get a great spot directly to the side of the decks. About ten feet away, so I could see everything JD was up to.

The first hour or two of his set was funky-type stuff to please the crowd. I didn't really care for what he was playing during this period. Just not my style: lots of vocals, electro, funk. But, I knew from [ms] reviews and experience that he would change gears sooner or later.

I felt his early stuff was just a set-up to lure the crowd into the menacing darkness that would follow. In this phase of his set, they flooded the floor with ice-cold dry ice on several occasions. The visibility was about 2 feet! It was amazing to be immersed in this fog with the thunder JD was piping into the speakers.

Another great aspect of the show was the video projected directly behind JD. Lots of abstracted, high-speed clips that were very trippy. Great stuff. I'm not sure if the video was digweed's or if was provided by Spundae but it really enhanced the show.

I didn't really recognoze much of his set but I noticed lots of sounds that were mixed in. After 3 am, his set changed gears into the territory that I was expecting. The crowd remained strong and the sounds were awe inspiring. Absolutely blown away with the pacing and the build-ups and the release provided when he dropped the gaunlet down. The crowd was feeding off his set largely due to the fact that he buttered them up for the onslaught.

Diggers was really into the programming. He was bouncing around the decks pacing himself much like a boxer does: getting the perfect timing to layer in the deep progressive sounds we all love. He played until about 5:30. By that time, the crowd had thinned out, but there was letting up from the master.

                      Great show.

                        Hi Hypoluxxa,

I know this is a late reply but...

Jog my memory, which clubs did you use to frequent back in the day? Kontrol Fakotry? Helter Skelter? Perversion? Stygmata? Das Bunker? Did we use to hang out? I have very fond memories of that period in my life.

I don't know if you knew but I had a three year residency spinning at Kontrol Faktory.

                        peacE!

                        Hac

BTW, I was more of a rivet head (industrial) than a goth...

Gotta back up the Sun and the Sea. IF you haven't seen Digweed at teh Mayan, well, (barring Heaven) you haven't seen him. Period. The most evil dirty grinding TECHNOtransmogrifiedPROG you've ever dreamt of. Definitely put it on the list of things to do before you die.

venues can totally kill a great dj set. i saw sasha in atl back in late june. nice sound, great vibe, awesome! then i saw him a week later in sf at mezzanine. crowded as hell and the sound system sucked. bass was almost non-existent. no vibe, no energy. i couldn't believe it was the same guy i heard a week before and enjoyed so much. the set was very similar and i'm totally drug free.

those ppl that think digweed is over-hyped or over-rated after seeing him live has probably never stayed til the end of the night.
