When I had my wisdom tooth (I was lucky and only had one!) out I had GA and I am the biggest wuss on the planet, especially when it comes to needles and in all honesty....it wasn't that bad...you can't feel a thing....

I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.

It's minor dude, do not sweat it.

The story that really got me thinking about this was my buddy that was having a tooth pulled, and that involved him being fully aware that the doctor had one foot hiked up on the chair for leverage while an assistant held his head down and they basically tugged in opposite directions. He said he was incredibly sore afterwards -- not just his mouth, but his upper body from all the pressure. Between that, the sounds and whatnot, it sounded like a real drag.

Looks like I'm going with nitrous. Glad I asked, that hadn't even occurred to me!

Go with N2O, hiked up on the chair?

Re: Tooth Extraction -- General or Local Anesthetic

Local is fine. I've had 8 teeth out over the years.

You wont feel a thing on the novacaine, (one step from cocaine) bit of giggle gas and you;ll be fine. As said though, trying to snap a tooth with pliers is hard work and there is a bit of pressure. Not to mention the 'hamster' cheek effect

Bottom line, don't be poof, take the pain.

Yep. That might still happen, but if it does, I'm sure I could give a rip less on the nitrous...

if it's just a simple tooth, go for the local anesthetic, it's not that much of a deal you wont feel a thing
if it's the wisdom teeth you want out, than the g.a would do better
trust me, i'm a dentist, it's not that big deal

I always take the nitrous!! My dentist has actually gotten so used to me asking for it (even for a cleaning) that he usually puts me in the chair and lets me enjoy for about 20 minutes before he even gets started.

I try to talk him out of a bottle everytime I go in, he has yet to give in, but i think I'm starting to loosen him up.

well, just got back and I decided to go the n2o route. put on a set on my iPod, laid back, and just had a ball. so glad I didn't do the general.

I got knocked out when I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out a few years ago. I vaguely remember trying to joke around with the nurses when I came to. Seemed funny to me at the time, but according to my girlfriend, I made no sense at all.

                                Fun stuff. Percocets rock too.
