Re: which track(s) you could call "Classics of prog&quo

Almost everything mentioned above but what i ve always considered as my all time favourite top 3 prog tracks would be:

        Sasha - Expander
        Bedrock - Heaven Scent

and last but definately not least
(this is the track that really made me conceive what prog is all about)

        Shmuell Flash - Chilling Moments

Oh, and breeder's the chain and twilo thunder, tarantella and redanka -compass error as well as anything from james holden plus the first track-actually the second one cause i think the first one was lemon 8's- from moschic's kiss 100 set in dec 2001(i am trying really hard not to get carried away here...)
Speakman Sound - Hold the Line

Dont know if this one has been mentioned already but a track that can be used to define prog imo is:

Andry Nalin - One of these days (parts 1&2)

          John Digweed@Kiss 100 - 15 May 03

As John says "It's quite long(14mins) but its worth every last second of it"

          Top class!

Glad you liked the list Hambrecht. Here's a few more. Some are not exactly progressive, but around the same era at least:

              - 51 Days - Paper Moon (Touch?)
              - Rejuvination - Requiem (Soma)
              - POB - The Essence (Seismic)
              - Stereogen - Hi-Q (Vinyl Addiction)
              - Hot Lizard - The Theme (Love From San Francisco Mix) (Pacific)
              - Direkt - Two Fatt Guitars (U.F.G.)
              - Pizzaman - Babyloop (Loaded)
              - Lionrock - Lionrock (Deconstruction)
              - Spooky - Schmoo (Guerilla)
              - Tenth Chapter - Prologue (Guerilla)
              - Blue Amazon - Four Seasons (Jackpot)

I've recently transferred an old Digweed tape from 1993 recorded for Renaissance, onto mp3. I bought the original tape when it came out. I think you might be interested in what I can piece together from the tracklist:

1 - Sasha & Danny Campbell - Together (United Club Mix) (FFRR)
2 - Sasha & Danny Campbell - Together (QAT Dub) (FFRR)
              3 - Unknown
4 - Joi Cardwell - Jump for Joi (Eightball)
              5 - Bump - I'm Rushin' (Good Boy Records)
              6 - Atlas - Compass Error (Pandephonium)
              7 - Unknown
              8 - Fluke - Electric Guitar (Circa)
9 - (Intro) (also on Renaissance The Mix Collection)
              10 - Pizzaman - Babyloop (Loaded)
              11 - Unknown
              12 - Ransom - My Dance (Loaded)
              13 - V.F.R. - Tranceillusion (Original Mix)
              14 - TC 1993 - Harmony (Union City Recordings)
              15 - Rejuvination - Requiem (Soma)
              16 - Unknown

The first double mix of Together was interesting as it was exactly what he had done on a hot-mix for Tong a few weeks previous. That mp3 is pumping in the headphones right now Lots more where that came from

Sounds bad ass. That Harmony record is sweet. I don't remember that one getting played much. (Except by me)

Can you post this bad boy? I could probably ID the rest.

Since which year is "Progressive" considered as an own Genre? 1999? 2000? A bit early to call out "classic" prog tunes IMO. But I hate list threads anyway so disregard my posting.

Generally I am not keen on list threads, but usually only when it involves listing your top 10 DJs or something. I make this exception when it comes to progressive classics.

There were progressive "best of" albums out as early as 1992. I would consider 92 and 93 as the classic years, but IMO the quality of music since then has not degraded at all. There was plenty of sh1te around then, and there is plenty of it now.

Sure - anywhere in particular? It is actually some of the best mixing I ever heard then or now. Played that tape out for a long time. It is a little cut up in parts due to it being on a 60 min tape originally and there were a few breaks on it anyway.

I have a few other classic mixes, but only a few transferred to mp3 at the moment. Sasha on Kiss FM from Feb 1993 where he starts off does the Fluke/Funk Machine/Fluke mix he also did on Renaissance mix collection, is another favourite. I put that mp3 out there a while ago so you might be able to find it already. Here is the tracklist for that one (60mins):

1 - Fluke - Slid (PDF Mix) (Virgin)
2 - Funk Machine - Let's Get This Party Started (Party Mix) (Flying)
3 - Fluke - Slid (Scat and Frenzy Mix) (Virgin)
4 - Hysterix - Talk To Me (Sasha Mix) (Deconstruction)
5 - Disco Evangelists - De Niro (Black Sunshine)
6 - Synth Problem - L.A. Factory (Top Secret Records)
                      7 - Unknown
8 - Eden - Do You Feel 4 Me (Logic)
9 - Spooky - Schmoo (Remix) (Guerilla Records)
                      10 - Moonchild - V.O.A.T (Original Mix) (Bluebird Recordings)
                      11 - Virtualmismo - Mismoplastico (Progressive)
                      12 - Virtualmismo - Mismoplastico (Progressive)
13 - Helicopter - On Ya Way (Tic Tac Toe)

Sasha and Digweed also did a two week (6 hour) show on Kiss back then too. If only I could find those tapes again....
