The chat is from my other home, inthemix, which is Australia's largest dance music website.
I actually run the online audio section of it, and the questions that are listed as 'Grant' are from me

i remember reading somewhere that jz had to convince sasha of the advantages of using cd's rather than acetate presses for new tunes."just when i think i'm out, they...pull me back in"Comment

Every DJ I know is of the opinion that beatmatching is the basis for dance music DJ?ing, but it?s not what defines DJ? ing as an art : like Sasha says, it?s the content, and how you present it to your audience.
I assure you, as an Ableton Live user, that freeing your mind and hands from beatmatching will allow a whole new level of creativity and freedom in DJ sets. And that?s good for the DJ and, I think, even better for the crowd.
Thats the problem I see with djin from a computer... you no longer have this weed out of djs who are really dedicated (spend hours on end honing their skills) vs the any person who can use a computer.Comment

But you?re assuminh there?s no learning curve to something like Ableton Live...believe me, there is. Even beatmatching in Live takes some learning (though, once you learn it, you won?t worry about it too much ever again).
And I insist on the creative aspect of it. A talented DJ is a talented DJ, no matter if he does it with a laptop or 2 turntables. And talent (or lack of it) will win out.Comment
