Jimi Hendrix of Bass

I just saw les claypool and his fancy band this past friday and I would just like to say les puts together one mind blowing show with an incredible array of sounds and beats....he really is the hendrix of bass.

if you never seen them i really recommend seeing dem live... dis kind of live music really blows my mind more than any dance shows. its progressive at its best

I'm more a Christian McBride fan myself.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

Les Claypool on Bass/Vocals, Skerik on sax, Mike Dillon on vibes, marimba and percussion (both of Garage a Trois and Critters’ Buggin), the band is rounded out by Cake drummer Paulo Baldi and multi-instrumentalist Gabby La La. Gabby played mostly sitar when i saw them

a pic I took of gabby at the show. pic a little crappy it was with my phone. those instruments behind here are what mike dillon was playing.

Les at one point wore this mask and played this instrument with a bow....although this isnt a pic of the show.

the guy was a showman and a badass 10 years ago. i don't doubt he's picked up a few more tricks. people knock primus and claypoole's stuff. sure, it's wierd. but this guy puts on a great live act. worth checking out.

Les Claypool is unblieveable. I like his Primus stuff more than his new stuff, but he still puts on one hell of show.

damn i used to love me some primus. tim alexander was my fav. he and claypool made that band. one of the sickest drummer/bass combos around. love that sloppy precussion.

technically...damn impressive. musically...it sounded like someone clanging pots and pans together. figner tapping a bass that much is rediculous...

and of all the bass phenoms mentioned in this thread, claypool is the best. if nothing, for the fact that the guy can SING while playing some of the craziest riffs i've ever heard. trust me, as someone who has played guitar for 10 years...to play complex music and sing with any kind of rhythm at all is extremely difficult.
ohh, and he plays a six string fretless bass. that alone is just madness...

seriously...imagine playing that and singing it at the same time. get back to me when you can pull it off...i'll buy you an ice cream cone. and one of claypool's basses. and then we'll go on tour.
