Bloomberg: Who Does He Hurt?

Bloomberg has recently formally withdrawn his affiliation with the Republican party:

With this and other things in mind, it's looking more and more like Bloomberg will enter the presidential campaign at some point as an Independent. Assuming that does happen, who do you think this helps and hurts? I could see it going either way, and my opinion would probably change depending upon who gets the Republican and Democratic nominations.

hopefully both, because they both deserve a spanking and with any luck bloomy will actually win. Could you imagine a president not in the pocket of lobbyists/corporations/parties?!

This guy shouldn't run until 2012. Whoever gets the nod in '08 is gonna have so much negative crap to deal with they will surely fail.

This guy shouldn't run until 2012. Whoever gets the nod in '08 is gonna have so much negative crap to deal with they will surely fail.

Spot on and a good part of the reason I believe he decided a while ago that he wouldn't be running in 08...who the hell really wants to deal with this mess?!

I see it being a Bloomberg/Hagel ticket, and I do not see that going anywhere at all.

in US political system is there any deadlines for when candidates have to declare their intention to run? ie could bloomberg sit the fence until 6 months to go and then powerboat in?

In a similar mode - has it always been 18 months before the actual election that all the candidates and first debates started? or has it just grown earlier and earlier over time?

Its unfathomable to me that there is still 18 months to go !

It is very, very early for this much election activity to be going on. It's my theory that people are so tired of the Bush presidency that they're beginning the process earlier to make it seem like it won't be that long until he's out of office. That's my 100% biased opinion, though.
