So Blair is going to pick up a job in the ME as special envoy for the UN and EU. (link). Well, 10 years of political experience as statesman should get him somewhere. Be it not that he was Bush's poodle and sent troops into Iraq... Hamas (aka the gheys from ghaza) already started whining (link) as could be expected.

So thoughts anyone? Just a fat payed consultancy job or is he going to make a difference?

I wonder if they're gonna perform a yes/no media show like they did when Harry wanted to get sum in Iraq

I might be wrong here (its been known to happen) but my understanding is that the job itself does not carry a pay-cheque, its an honorary position - it does however come with a full compliment of staff and an office in Jerusalem.

Your comments about Blair being Bush's poodle - what utter nonsense you Europeans sprout - had Blair not agreed with Bush but taken the line of most European leaders over the past 5 years, would this have made him a European poodle?

I have had the great honour of meeting Blair on a number of occasions, and hearing him talk, away from the microphones - Tony was no ones poodle, it just pisses of you Europeans who were not prepared to put political conviction ahead of their own personal political fears at home. After all Eurabia is a fast expanding region in its own right is it not Jan?

Blair will go down in history as one of he few political leaders of our times who followed their own political conviction as opposed to caving in to groups at home who might have made their lives a bit difficult. You Europeans could learn a lot from Blair.

Dunno about that really. Just heard his position won't be political. He's going to help the Palestinians tidy up their adminstrative system and help relaunch the economy. Perfect man for that job imo.

Tony Blair gets praise for "solving" Northern Ireland. I believe peace wouldn't have happened in N.I. without September 11th. The IRA could hardly have carried on with a bombing campaign after loosing all support from the USA (political and from the people). Blair realised this and along with Adams and Paisley and the peace process was forced upon all of them as the struggle was no longer possible without the financial backing from the US.

So Blair hasn't even got this Nobel(est) touch of peace and his CV is enhanced with spin so he has NO reason to be doing this job in the middle East

I'm a Brit and your welcome to Blair. He might have convictions but he pretty much fabricated the reasons for going to war. He's not a Statesman in the British tradition, hes a manipulator and a slimy one at that.

I think he may get a suntan if nothing else, or maybe a kiddnapping, bit of solitary for Tone. .
