    Suggestions for Road Trip Tracklist

Going away for a much needed vacation on Thursday and I've got a 5 hour drive to get there. I'm going to be with four other people in the car and would like to keep conversation to a minimum - anyone care to recommend a few tunes to make up a good road trip mix?

I saw the road trip thread from a few weeks ago but that was 90% EDM and I've got that side covered - I'm looking for a more varied mix of tunes. Any genre is cool, I just need some ideas.

    Much appreciated!

All friends, but friends that I'm going to be camping with for four straight days. I know by the end of the trip I'm going to be sick of them anyway so I don't want to speed that process up by having to listen to them for the entire ride to Maine!

These guys/girl aren't into house but are into pretty much everything else - so I'm looking for a quality, cross genre mix. Since 95% of my music library is house, I got about an hour and 20 minutes of music lined up, but that won't even get us to Boston! That's why I need some good recommendations for you folks.

I just went on a float trip and was responsible for selecting the tunes for a group of about 40 people of diverse musical taste, so I hear where you're coming from. Pull from a bunch of different genres and you'll be fine -- you're never going to please everyone with every single song, but if people recognize every other song, and like 1 out of 3 or 4, they'll be content. For example, I pulled from:

A healthy smattering of current top 40 and alt rock stuff
                    New Order
                    U2
                    Fugazi
                    Jurassic 5
                    The Roots
                    Gnarls Barkley
                    Blackalicious
                    Simon & Garfunkel
                    Big Head Todd
                    Jay Z
                    Linkin Park
                    Elton John
                    Billy Joel
                    Coolio
                    Underworld
                    Zero 7
                    The Orb
                    The Herbalizer
                    Toadies
                    Goo Goo Dolls
                    Morphine
                    Some EDM single tracks
etc., etc., you get the idea

There's obviously a wide, wide range of different stuff in there, but it ended up being pretty well-received. It's tough to get people who only listen to mainstream music to quietly listen to 5 hours of shit they've never heard before, but even the folks with pretty limited musical taste will warm up to new stuff if it's interspersed with stuff they recognize.
