Re: Haka
It never looks bdumbass as long as you really believe in what you do...this would look ridiculous with the dutch football team, but it's what these guys do from their heart. So go and make yourself a dance Kinky, I know you can do it!!!
And yes, rugby pwns big time, i prefer it over football (soccer for the yanks here) anytime...Blowkick visual & graphic design - No Civilization. Now With Broadband.

Re: Haka
So do you have a little act when entering the ring Yawnster? Frankly I pitty the fools who do. I remember this little fuckwad who started to do the traditional muay thai dance before the fight. I got him TKO in just two rounds. It does make you look dumbass when you get your ass kicked...Comment

Music is essential for the expression of non material ideals and energies. Music colors our surroundings with emanations from the highest vibrational fields. It allows us to escape all limitations in our thinking and very existence.

Re: Haka
The Haka really does well to psyche out the opposition. The look on the faces of the guys who do it well it's extremely intimidating. An excellent tradition the Maoris have there.
Pity we beat them on the weekend in the football
Hey Kinky do many people do the traditional dance before your fights? I've been to a few boxing nights in Thailand and I quite like watching the dance. Have you ever fought in Thailand? Get on over there and I'll come and watch you!"If not for Josh Wink, Sasha wouldn't own any Acid except for the paper stuff he dopes chicks with at clubs." - Jenks, 2004Comment

Re: Haka
^^^ thai & kick boxingVery few do that traditional dance. When you're not a Thai, it looks kinda idiotic imo. Never fought in Thailand and not planning that either. Those Thai mofos are insane...Comment

Re: Haka
In Thailand even the whiteys do the traditional dance. It happens before every round no matter what. I guess they wouldn't let you fight if you couldn't perform the dance because I haven't seen anyone not do it."If not for Josh Wink, Sasha wouldn't own any Acid except for the paper stuff he dopes chicks with at clubs." - Jenks, 2004Comment

Re: Haka
The Haka translated =
It is death! It is death!
It is life! It is life!
This is the hairy person
Who caused the sun to shine
Keep abreast! Keep abreast
The rank! Hold fast!
Into the sun that shines!
"This is the hairy man Who caused the sun to shine "
I'm sure there's an interesting story behind it.....Comment

Re: Haka
The fight is preceded by a wai khru dance, in which each contestant pays homage to his teachers. Besides the symbolic meaning, the dance is a good warm-up exercise. You will notice that each boxer wears a headband and armbands. The headband, called mongkhol, is believed to bestow luck to the wearer since it has been blessed by a monk or the boxer’s own teacher. Since Buddhism and the teacher play important roles in the life of Thais, the headband is both a lucky charm and a spiritual object. It will be removed after the wai khru dance, and only by the boxer’s trainer. The armbands, meanwhile, are believed to offer protection and are only removed when the fight has ended.

Re: Haka
A buddy of mine was sent to an inpatient group home on an island where this dance was part of their culture (I forget what island exactly). Anyway, he came back after a few years with a tattoo (that was tapped by hand) and the ability to do this dance with the utmost intensity, he could perform it alone and it was intimidating every time...he is only like 5'7 too... Great video, thanks for sharing it.
