Humanity has hit a new low

WICHITA, Kan. — As stabbing victim LaShanda Calloway lay dying on the floor of a convenience store, five shoppers, including one who stopped to take a picture of her with a cell phone, stepped over the woman, police said.
The June 23 situation, captured on the store's surveillance video, got scant news coverage until a columnist for The Wichita Eagle disclosed the existence of the video and its contents Tuesday.
Police have refused to release the video, saying it is part of their investigation.
"It was tragic to watch," police spokesman Gordon Bassham said Tuesday. "The fact that people were more interested in taking a picture with a cell phone and shopping for snacks rather than helping this innocent young woman is, frankly, revolting."
The woman was stabbed during an altercation that was not part of a robbery, Bassham said. It took about two minutes for someone to call 911, he said.
Calloway, 27, died later at a hospital.
Two suspects have been arrested. A 19-year-old woman was charged with first-degree murder. Another suspect who turned himself in had not been charged as of Tuesday, the Sedgwick County prosecutor's office said.
Not walking into a fight, that I can understand. But stepping over someone who's bleeding to death? And the photo? Wtf?

And today in Holland two cops hear a guy screaming in a building, but they waited half an hour for back up and did nothing. By the time they entered the building, the victim (28yrs) was already tortured to death.

Doesn't suprise me...the majority of people just don't know what to do in these situations, I've seen it 100 x.

It was fun while it lasted...

                  from today's Boston Globe:

By Raja Mishra and John R. Ellement, Globe Staff | July 6, 2007
NEW BEDFORD -- As doctors continued caring for a mutilated 3-year-old, allegedly bitten and battered by her mother's live-in boyfriend, Department of Social Services officials said yesterday that social workers investigating early-warning signs of suspected abuse said she was never home when they visited so they did not complete their inquiry.
As a result, the girl was left to live four more months with the couple, a man who had been convicted on assault and biting charges, and her mother, who prosecutors say was willing to cover for him.
The girl first came to the attention of DSS officials in January, after suffering a broken tooth and bruising that a physician called suspected abuse. DSS officials said they were unable to find and interview the girl, delaying any legal action on their part. New Bedford police, meanwhile, dropped their investigation after accepting explanations for the injuries given by Jessica Silveira, 26, the girl's mother.
DSS took custody in May after the girl was brought to Children's Hospital Boston with injuries that doctors told police constituted one of the worst cases of abuse they had ever seen. In court yesterday, prosecutors said her mother's boyfriend of three years, Bryan M. James, 34, had bitten off a portion of the child's lip and pummeled her head so frequently that one ear was left deformed, with her hearing possibly permanently impaired.
"He bited my lip with his teeth," the girl told police May 29, according to court documents. "I get hit a lot."

Fucking hell yeah I've been pissed off about this for days. The guy allegedly got tortured because he regularly fucked around with his 5yr old kid, but the mere fact that the coppers were standing there and listening while he got stabbed and cut to death while he was taped to a chair is just plainly insane. And the people outside did the same thing bunch of motherfuckers.

Taking in mind that no-one at the time knew why he was being tortured (so presume innocent here), it completely blows my mind that the police, armed with guns and pepperspray actually waited for assistance before they entered. I've not had any respect for the 'guys in blue' for a long time, but now it's at an all time low. And don't expect them to let you go when you're speeding or don't put on your fucking bycicle light when they catch you!
