The backlit keyboard would definitely be nice when travelling. Seriously if you don't mind the difference in price, get the MBP. But if budget is a concern, the MB will be serviceable for your needs.

Personally I'm saving up the extra for the MPB because I like the (sturdy polished) feel of it, and the keyboard is a big issue since I err type a lot.

I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.

MBP! Join the elite team of MBP owners!

I like the overall design of the MBP. The main difference is the guts. MB have crappy crap video cards, while the MBP have their own dedicated. Generally speaking the MBP is the high end laptop for Apple and MB is the low end.

Yeah, I know that -- just trying to figure out if I'd actually be taking advantage of the high end features. I don't want to be that guy that spends $650 on Photoshop but only uses it to remove red-eye, you know?

          True.

          Differences:
          - Screen Size (Display)
          - Video Card (Onboard vs Nvidia)
          - Memory (what it is upgradable to and what it comes with)
          - Design (for me this is very important I just have to look good )
          - Backlit Keyboard (though people think this is stupid, I love it & need it)
          - Guts (MB vs MBP Procs: MBP have faster processors)

                true that mike.

if i could leave my music production obsession behind on a business trip i would go with the macbook (i kinda like the black one...) and i would have an issue with spending so much money on extras you really dont need as a general user imo. i feel you only need the pro when you are doing professional audio/video/image work... and for high level programming too

thats just me... but of course if money is not an issue, go pro.

Why don't you make a list of the software you use most frequently, that ought to give you an idea of the specs you need.

I used to run Office, Firefox, Adium, Growl, some sound editing freeware that I can't remember, and iTunes on an iBook with 256MB of RAM and it was serviceable. If you intend to run stuff like that on a daily basis plus the occasional Photoshop (resizing pictures, minor editing, nothing majorly graphical / professional), etc, I don't see why a current Macbook with 2GB of RAM won't suffice.

so feeling you on this one.

And this announcement makes it even more juicy

It's no secret that OS X is based on BSD Unix, and it looks like Apple let a little more of those roots shine through with Leopard -- The Open Group has just awarded OS X 10.5 Leopard UNIX 03 certification, meaning that Apple joins Sun, HP, and IBM as the only certified vendors. The spec covers libraries, system calls, terminal interfaces, commands and utilities, internationalization and the C language, meaning that software vendors can easily port server and non-GUI apps to and from OS X with minimal effort. Although this was already mostly the case, it's always nice to see the circle complete, isn't it?[Via TUAW]
