    Max Roach...RIP @ 83

not only probably the best drummer of the bebop/bop jazz era, but one of the best all-time jazz drummers PERIOD.

This guy could layer shit regardless of the tempo and make it sound ridiculous...always enjoyed hearing him on many a recording.

are we the only three people who are educated enough in music to know who this genius was? Damn that's sad.

Almost all the Jazz greats are gone. I guess the term jazz is dead almost has a whole new meaning. Damn this is sad.

very sad news... a true legend in the development of what is certainly one of my favorite (if not my favorite) styles of jazz. RIP and may your music be heard forever.

Sonny was a great sax man. I'm sure they are all jamming together somewhere.

Absolute legend - there from the start of be-bop with Bird, Dizzy and Miles and then helped introduce modern jazz via his records with Rollins. Always kept evolving - a really sad loss and a true true legend. Art Davis, once 'Tranes bass player died (relatively unnoticed) the previous week. But the music lives on.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.
