    Apartheid is back... in Israel

Bumping up a story which has slidden off the scope thanks to the fireworks in Iran.

Just saw a documentary, shot by an Israeli, about Bi'lin and the "security" wall running across it. Bi'lin is a little village of farmers, moderate people actually. They support the Palestinian government, not Hamas.

Despite that, Israel decided to cut the territory of Bi'lin in two with a wall behind which settlements are built (first illegally, but they were legalized after this story hit the media). Clearly there were no security issues at stake, just real estate interests.

As of the beginning of the construction works, the farmers of Bi'lin protested peacefully, but were shot at systematically by the IDF. Even the presence of foreigners and even Israelis amongst the protesters didn't change this.

I couldn't find the entire documentary, but here's a flick which is a good synopsis.

Seems to me that Hamas aren't the only "bad guys" in the region. This is Apartheid all over, but yeah well... I guess stealing land from black people is less politcally correct than stealing it from Palestinians... Sad.

As usual Kinky you know not what you say.

    1. Israel, whilst an occupying force in what we call the west bank, does not claim that land as their own - yet!

2, The Palestinians of the west bank are living partially under control of their own administration and partially under Military occupation - they have been living under occupation since 1948 when they first occupied by Jordan (Israeli occupation started in 1967)

    3. That aside, your thread title is bollocks, please show me where IN ISRAEL apartheid is in operation. And for sake of argument here, your thread implies its in Israel, and not Israeli occupied territory - I assume you know what the difference is?

As usually Dave, you've read my post diagonally and drawn your conclusion based on the prejudice that nobody but you knows anything.

      1. If Israel doesn't claim the land, why do project developers build apartment blocks there? Why did the IDF build a wall? Why does the Israeli High Court rule in this case?

      2. I'm not talking about the entire West Bank, I'm talking about the village of Bi'lin. Bi'lin is under the rule of the Palestinian government.

      3. Cut it out with the symantics man, you're trying to deny what's going on there with wordplay.

Fortunately some of your fellow countrymen are a little less blind than you are.

        Kinky

I aint denying anything. Occupation is wrong. I'm on record as saying that here many a time.

But you're thread title is misleading and far from the truth.

I challenge you to prove the assertion of the thread title.

Go on. Prove me wrong. Where in the state of Israel is apartheid in place?

I await with eager anticipation your holier than tho european bollocky explanation,

What you call a non discussion here Kinky is exactly the problem with how people see the situation here in the Middle East.

Israel is not an apartheid state. Basic fact.

Do Palestinians living under occupation have an easy life - no of course not, no one claims otherwise - but what you have done with this thread is TOTALLY change facts to suite whatever purpose or even agenda you might have.

Now that that is cleared up. . . . .

If you say that Israel is an apartheid state the only thing you're doing is to undermine de valuable effort of southafrica people against that evil government

                    Aren't semantics fun?

While apartheid might not exist in Israel per se, many mainstream Israeli journalists describe the conditions in the occupied territories as similar to South African apartheid.

So I can understand how the original poster called it Apartheid ... in Israel because it is apartheid-like conditions (according to many Israeli journalists) in areas where Israel exercises authority.
