This set has been obtained from a very high quality source (possibly the master copy - but we do not know exactly) - certainly the highest quality of "A State of Trance" on the entire internet. The source version has been gain adjusted (at 89dB) and carefully transcoded to VBR MP3 using the new Lame3.98b5 (switches: -V0 -q0 -Y) encoder (much improved VBR code compared to Lame 3.97). The resulting MP3 file was also modified with Audioshell (adding ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags) and MP3val (correcting the MP3-file length reported by the MP3 header for proper seeking).
Final (superior) quality: 238 kbps 44.1kHz VBR stereo MP3. Absolutely error-free. All MP3-players will play this file as usual.
And finally, after all that, the MP3 file has been improved even more - a third (for normal stereo mp3-players invisible) channel with 17kbps 5.1 surround extension has been added with the MP3SX converter (MP3SX has been developed by the developers of MP3 themselves!) . These extra 17kbps re-route the ambience of the stereo file to 5.1 speakers plus a mono content detection. The file shows itself as a 238kbps MP3 (the first 221 kbps are the original stereo). This is not a so-called "nuked" file! Check the Fraunhofer explanations HERE. A software player for the MP3SX / MP3 Surround content (version 2.0.0) can be found at all4mp3.com.
