I heard those WD are fucking trash. They fuck up and do weird things all the time. I know they had some fan issue, when the drive was not reading or writing it sounded like a fucking jet engine. I dunno, go ask my Mother.

It looks nice, and a lot of free space, but really expensive, and as metioned before its not reliable, i won't buy it, even if it was cheaper...

Re: I Love It...2TB Hard Drives

I wanted to purchase one as well due to the raid mirroring and size. After reading numerous reviews of DOA, fan, drive, performance, I felt this product was not worth the money. That is the last thing I needed to do is to tamper with a drive for it to be effective. hesh.

Re: I Love It...2TB Hard Drives

it's just this one and the LaCie right now...but the RAID mirroring is nice. Not a huge fan of WD's personally anymore either; though I picked up a 250GB internal some months back for $20...but that's about as far as I'll go.

It's only since now the 1TB's are coming down and the 750GB's are starting to hit that break point price of making it easily worthwhile to get that the 2TB's would just start hitting the market.

            I want to see a 10TB soon...

Just to show how cheap HDD's have become.

                          exactly

but the best thing of having a NAS is you can access it from every computer in your LAN
so i wanted a Lacie 500gb nas to store music and movies at home, and have access from my desktop and laptop

If you shop at Circuit City and Best Buy then you kind of deserve to get screwed.

For 7800 USD, you can have the Adaptec RAID 31605 (995 USD) and quite a bunch of harddisks (up to 16 with this one).

Seriously, I've bought 2 years ago an Adaptec card (Adaptec Serial ATA RAID 2410SA (now 390 USD) in order to have a Raid 5 at home and secure some data. I had used 4x300GB, up to an impressive (for that time) 838 GB. I used Seagate Baracuta SATA disks. They have never failed and this computer/server is on 24/7 (only off when I'm away for more than 3 days).

This card is interesting because I can add bigger HDD and having therefore a bigger RAID at my disposal. All that without a shutdown.
