    RAM problem

I have 512 MB RAM (2x256MB) installed in a DELL Inspiron Notebook with Win XP Home Edition. However, when I go to Control Panel/System it shows only 448 MB... Is this normal? I can really use the extra MB if it would be a matter of fixing setup or hardware issues.

    Thanks for any help

    Re: RAM problem

It's probably using the rest for video memory. Shared memory is common in laptops and motherboards with built in graphics. You'll be able to change that in the BIOS most likely.
But if you can, add more memory.

        Re: RAM problem

        you'll have to see what your maximum amount is...if it's 512 that's a shit model/motherboard inside...many Inspiron's should allow at least 1GB max.

And yes sounds like there's some shared memory in there for video graphics...most Dell's also have shit for video memory too
