Alright, looking back at that other thread, perhaps "impossible" is a bit of an overstatement. Maybe correction isn't required as to you personally, but we all sat back and let people make similar assumptions about Iraq, and the failure to challenge them is part of what led us to the worst foreign policy mistake in our lifetime. It's high time we began asking for some proof rather than just taking these things at face value.

For example, to play devil's advocate, what exactly is the proof that Iran is arming Shia militants? Is it that they have Iranian-made weapons? You know what other country manufactured weapons used by the Shia militias? It should come as no shock to anyone that they are also using some US weaponry. Does that mean that we're funding terrorists? Should we invade ourselves? Of course not, and the reality is that Iran probably is playing a role in what's going on in Iraq, but after the clusterfuck that is Iraq, we ought to insist upon better evidence than overly simplistic notion that "We're seeing Iranian weapons, so Iran must be involved." Has Iraq taught us nothing?

Regardless, I have yet to see anyone offer any substantive rebuttal to my initial comment, or seen any further support for the statement that Ahmadinejad is "a huge sponsor of terrorism killing our troops in Iraq." I still maintain that it draws a connection between two unconnected things. So humor me on my devil's advocate role here for a moment and explain to me how that's wrong.

I can see your point of view and I think we should question are we really getting the truth on Iran. I'll never forget Colin Powell testifying before Congress with satellite photos saying that Iraq was making WMDs.

We were misled about Iraq, so why should we trust the Bush administration now? A fair question, but there's a good chance Iran is sponsoring terrorism. Ahmadinjead was even accused by hostages held in Iran in the late 70's as actually being one of the terrorists. However, with Iran sponsoring terrorism, this is something that has been known for sometime and generally accepted by most everyone. Even today as you mention, our military is finding Iranian weapons with the insurgents in Iraq. Does that mean Iran is involved? Probably, but not clearly yes. If that's the case, then indirectly they are arming insurgents to kill Americans.

My concern is that people so dislike and hate Bush that it clouds their judgment and actually end up siding with people like Ahmadinjead by allowing him to speak at Columbia University. So, they sit through a speech and Q&A where he denies the Holocaust every happened.

why did columbia allow him to speak? for the same reason they allowed nazi party members to fly over the pond and speak in the early 1930's. it fit with thier agenda. Columbia U's president taking Ahmeniwhatever to task in teh first questions was just a cover-his-ass tactic.

i was really hoping to wake up and hear that some hilljack white trash had knocked Ahmenijad out. but alas, i wasn't lucky to read that news.

The one thing that disgusted me most was the fact that Bollinger invited him and then reemed him out. This is nonsensical and only shows how pathetic political discourse has become in the US. There was no reason to invite him if the purpose was to insult a foreign dignitary.
