Re: Do people make fun of you for listening to edm?
For as long as I've liked edm people have teased me about it. Hardcore too, I mean some of my friends just don't let up about it. I've got a few good friends who are just as heavy into edm as myself, but the majority of them haven't a clue. I figure they just don't understand the beauty of our music. Most of what they hear is cheesy workout trance or some lame tune on a car commercial and they think all edm sounds that way. Even still, people like that would never take the time to listen and try to decipher our music from that rubish. I actually feel sorry for people who musical tastes are limited to what they hear on the radio or MTV.Comment

Doof doof doof.
I usually give people shit about listening to indie music 'cos it's so trendy now. Every dickwad around is either some emo indie kid or neu rave or electro clash whatever fuck. Take your music and shove it, leaves me with more space on the floor when Digweed swings by again.
And the people who don't understand EDM describes everything with a 4/4 beat as 'techno' and in their minds, they're thinking some kinda euro trash dance megamix music.
Seriously I just don't get it. Within the EDM genre there's such a spectrum of sounds and sub-genres ranging from breaks to psy to trance to tech to minimal to prog to house. The 'other music' are what sounds all the same to me
You should see some of the people who start tapping their feet etc. when I have my ipod on in the tram though
Another thing that pisses me off is people who say Djs aren't musicians, I actually got this one from a guy who play banjo in a bluegrass band!!Originally posted by TheVrkit IS incredible isn't it??
STILL pumpin out great set after great set...never cheesed out, never sold out, never lost his touch..
Simply does not get any better than HernanComment

Re: Do people make fun of you for listening to edm?
Yeah i get everything that people have mentioned on here plus more. The shit thing is most of my friends think along those lines too. So what i am planning to do is get a gig in melbourne later this year with another friend who also likes my sound and open up a nite in Melbourne. Then i am gonna invite all my mates and co workers etc advertise the nite make it really special and make the nite a real success (hopefully). Thats my idea right now cause i am sick to death of trying to explain it to people and give them cd's to listen to etc because they never listen to them or if they do they listen to them once and say nah its not for me. So i figure if they wont come out clubbing with me to listen to "DIGWEED" i will be the "DIGWEED" and then they will go (cause i will be playin) and you never know enjoy the nite and more importantly the music. Thats what i think you guys should also do hey..Comment

i don't get teasted much at all except for at work, which is pretty much to be expected. most of my friends dig the edm scene. i have certainly turned some heads of friends that didn't originally like edm as well.Should I fuck you at that not until the ass, inject then tremendously hard bumschen and to the termination in the eyes yes?Comment

The sailors of the United States Navy are among the most disciplined, devoted, and well-trained fighting men the world has ever known. They drink gasoline and piss fire, The spit bullets and shit bombs, and will swim across the ocean with a knife in their teeth just for the chance to carve up those that threaten their homeland.Comment

Re: Do people make fun of you for listening to edm?
Another thing most people into EDM
have pretty broad musical tastes in general
and listen to a lot of other styles and usually
are open to new music whether it's dub reggae
or avant garde classical.
Secondly, some of this R&B/Pop?Hip-hop music
has seem to borrow a lot of EDM sensabilities
the sounds, the off tempo backbeat, trippier structures.
You have to remember most people have become so
accustom to having everything watered down, people
expect it, so we must educate, sheez you even hear
EDM in a lot of movie soundtracks and not just songs
but soundscapes relating to the feel of a particular scene.Originally posted by ShpiraSo came back last night...
Sven Vath was amazing...he played a god damn killer set...ended up going to that and came to at like 10 am in some whore house in south Amsterdam...no idea how I ended up there...friday was a bit of a blur got really drunk and visited several parties can't remember a whole lot to be honest hehe...saturday was probably the best day that I recall...started up in the nearest coffee shop and going from party to party...beautiful woman, beer and weed...finished the night by taking some shrooms and listening to an amazing elke kleijn set...sunday...i met a nice girl who worked at one of the coffee shops and ended up talking to her for like 6 hours...was supposed to meet her at some DnB party...but instead went for a steak and walked around red light district bars drinking and smoking...monday took it easy went to a coffee shop and took a taxi to airport....
All in all...I think I will be going back there some time soonOriginally posted by IlluminateLet me get this straight.
So white-middle class Americans have been told by their Television sets to be fearful of:
1. Mexicans/Latinos from the South bringing drugs and killings n' shit.
2. African Americans cause mos def they are raging a race war and want to occupy America like how the plebs occupied Wall St.
3. Iranians/Afghans/Any one of middle eastern origin to be quite frank, cause you know Islam...
4. North Koreans/Chinese cause you know everything...
Am I close here?Comment

Re: Do people make fun of you for listening to edm?
I hear about it all of the time. It mainly has to do with the fact that I'm in the military and most of these fools are either backwoods, thugs, pop freaks etc. The only ones to show any interst are the nerds believe it or not. haha. I have a shit load of money tied up in my equipment for spinning and wen I have a party all I hear is do you have hip hop blah blah blah. I thought by coming to Germany, this area would be more appreciative of the music, but since th American military has been here so long, our pop culture has infected the locals here. All they want to hear is hip hop or whatever. But if I head out of this local area a couple of hours I can find good shite. I always have to travel to hear EDM no matter what continent I'm on.
Bro, like I said before to be appreciated aboad you must get to the U.K. I used to get mad props from both the local community and those base hobbits.
Just thinking about the times there....DAMN I needz to return to my 2nd home!Comment

Re: Do people make fun of you for listening to edm?
hmm somehow missed this thread before... I live in Columbus, OH, which means that most people around me are ass-backwards lemmings who will simply never have the mental capability and awareness to even grasp the concept of anything beyond commercial radio and/or TV. It's sad. So I'm through even trying to explain to anyone what this EDM stuff is and what it means to me. They're just not capable of getting it.mixes: www.waxdj.com/miroslavComment

Man I wish I would've known you awhile ago. I was at Scott AFB for just over a week and frequented the St Louis area. BTW, SL is the hotness and the breweries there.
I think I would have had a better time had I known someone with the low down.
Don't count me out though....i'll be back!Comment
