Being your 1st pc build I believe it's a good one. But if I were you, I would have gone for a 8800gtx instead of a 8600. The 8600gts is not a really powerfull GPU if you are planning to play demanding games. From the other hand, if you are not that obsessed with pc gaming then the 8600 is a good choice. Regarding the price, I'm afraid I can't help you since I don't usually buy from the net. But as far as I'm concerned, newegg is a nice place to buy from!

I would also recommend going quad core. If you're not going try and be an uber-overclocker with just a couple of bumps in your CPU cycles, that 8MB L2 cache on the Quad core is going to give you twice the performance boost over the regular 4MB cache on the Core 2 duos.

If you plan on doing the dual core and do plan to ever OC, you can get the E6400 for much cheaper and it'll OC way better since it has a better multiplier. I know that 6750 goes for around $150. I didn't get a chance to open your links and look at the prices.

I'm with beaner on that, the 6400 (or the better overclockable E6600 that has gained near legendary status for OCing) will easily take you from 2.4 ghz to 3.4 with minimal add ons for fighting heat. It won the product of the month for 2 straight months on newegg. iirc

Newegg.com is not a bad place to shop from but I don't agree with their pricing. It's a shame you don't have Fry's Electronics near you or that monarchcomputer.com is no longer with us. They always had better prices and great service. Do you have any electronics/pc shops near you that may offer better pricing than what Newegg has?

but i agree with u, go for the quad core, software will catch up especially with the dawn of 8 cores sometime in 2008

you answered it right there. I mean how quickly have we gone from 2 to 4 cores. The PC will remain with him long enough (at least the mb + cpu) to the point where 4 core exploitation could start happening within next year alone. you can always add more and more RAM in the future.

I'm sitting on the shitty Northwood architecture 3.2 ghz P4 for the last 4 years and its been keeping my living room toasty

I went with the 8800 GTS graphics card and a bigger power supply in the end in case i went with SLI in the future. I didn't go with the quad core and a GTX card due to price, but I have the ability to upgrade to those items if needed. I'm happy with the overall build. Installed Vista 32 bit business with no problems so far. Thanks for all of you comments and suggestions. Overall price after rebates should be about 900 dollars. Not to bad imo.
