Older model CD Recorders

    DJing Older model CD Recorders

    I have an older model Phillips CD recorder model cdr 200/17. I have used the same make cd's to make my dj set recordings.

    I just recently bought a batch of those cd's and now I get an "no opc" error on my recorder.....I still had a few of the older cds (purchased in 2005) and they worked fine.

    I called several tech assistance places and they said that the drive might not be able to recognize current version of the disk....suggested upgraded firmware in the drive....I have searched and it seems no updates available for this older model.

    Anybody have this unit or have a suggestion on any troubleshooting or cd make that may work to be able to continue recording sets with this device....


    IF NOT...whith the new technology what do most of you use to record your sets out of your mixer.

          wait a sec...are these data cd's or actual audio burning cd's. Because I have a friend who let me use his burner and they wouldn't accept the kind of cd's I already had, so I had to go buy ones from BB that said they were specifically for audio burning.

              could have changed manufacturers on the discs themselves. 2 years on that is an eternity.

              Even though there are a ton of name-brands, they all are generally made by the same few companies. Older CD-Recorders may or may not work well with them (it's always under a general "all work" deal, but occassionally problems arise).

                  I had the same no opc error like 2.5 years on a recorder I'd had since like 2001 then got an iriver with an input-now I've got a Zoom H2 and so far so good :-)

                      jeffs right... i use this still too

                      you need CDR DA (digital audio).
                      mine is still kickin! i just need some cables to run it to logic... lazy

                          I had one of those a few years ago and it would only burn onto "music" cdrs. If I bought cdrs that didn't day they were specifically for music recording they wouldn't work.

                              I feel bad for ChuckC-everyone keeps repeating the same thing he already knew he had to use specific audio cds-

                              the shit goes bad-after a while it's ability to recognize cds starts to fade -with a bunch of restarts and a whole spindle you can probably limp along for a few more weeks while u eat enough tuna to afford a soundcard or Zoom H2
