You can laugh all you like - this was his Perfecto anniversary tour ; we caught him mid-week at Liverpool where he's a legend .. I didn't expect much, but Oakey was awesome - played all his Annexe/Courtyard stuff, and it was simply the best night out in ages. His mixing isn't up there with pre-Ab Sasha .. but he knows how to work a crowd and build a set, and how to dust of the classics with decent bass and drum tracks - when he's on form there are few equals (as anyone that graced Cream in its hey days know). Sasha two weeks earlier at Sankey's was poor in comparison with his wimpy click-tracks ... and I'm a Sasha fan. As for Students .. they are scrounging adoleschent fuckwits with no discernable taste. We went to Digweed's Bedrock Uni Tour in '04 .. he played to 70 people, and the 80's Disco next door was busier !

okenjoke is just that now...a joke. he may play the odd decent set, but the guy regularly plays shows where he acts like a pompous ass and trainwrecks all evening long. guy may have been good back in 2000, but those days have long since come and gone.

sorry, it was just something that came to mind,

what i mean is this:

have you ever cued up a record and instead of releasing it where you would normally do so to keep it in a 4/4 pattern, you release the record 1 bar too late, or 1 bar to early? so that when you're mixing in between the crash-cymbals/hit don't match up?

it's very very obvious in his mixing. i'm almost sure he blatantly does it as a 'fuck you'.

i'm not talking about beatmatching, but just record synch-ing at the wrong time.

I hadn't heard Oakenfold miss the phrasing on his beatmatching...would make me wonder about doing that on purpose as generally it sounds retarded and thoroughly newbie-ish...although every now and then you'll get a record that throws something fucked up at you, like coming out of a break on the 19th bar...

It was like that every month at Bedrock in Brighton and I loved every minute of them all!
