    The Human Body

Well, I took the opportunity tonight to go with 2 of my pre-med friends to their lab to let them show me what the human body looks like without skin. I didn't realize how, well, mutilated or, taken apart, these bodies would be but anyway, it was totally fascinating and aside from a little dizziness and the unique smell it was really pretty amazing. Speaking of, has anyone else been to the bodies exhibit? We have one here in San Diego, I haven't been yet and now I'm not sure I need to or will...thoughts?

It was fun while it lasted...

I havent but I would. A couple of years ago over here they had the first live autopsy on television which was a huge deal in the media. No holds barred with the guy ripping open the rib cage etc. I also found it fascinating and dont see how seeing the human body like that could be percieved as disgusting or anything like that (unless its mutilated from some accident or something which is a bit different). At the the of the day we are all the same...

Sounds like a great Saturday night out!

I did go and see the Bodyworlds exhibit when it was here just over a year ago. It was completely fascinating to see the human body in that way. Especially the exploding body where every organ, muscle, appendage seemed to be floating in the air.
Awww...I didn't mean A holes, as in "A holes"...I meant it like, as in, my friends....

On the other hand, I dont think I have what it takes to be in an ER where someone is alive and badly hurt/suffering, thats 100% different than 90 yr olds whose bodies were donated to science for med students. Thanks for the input I think I will go to the exhibit now...

I'm a first year med student and we just wrapped up anatomy. It was a crazy experience. The first day of lab these corpses are laying and you can't help but wonder if it "hurts" when you are cutting into them. But the nerves fade quick and are shortly replaced by a sense of awe. I think every table reenacted the indian jones scene when the heart is held up though. It was all very surreal at times but probably the most interesting thing I have done to date.

P.S. I would always go into lab on my own when no one was there and set up my little portable speakers and blast a little S&D for all the stiffs to hear.

anatomy lab was my fav class in college. one of my buddies was a TA in the next class up in which they dissected bodies and he let me do that, which was fuckin amazing.
went to the bodies exhibit in las vegas, really cool stuff. big recommend!

I prefer bodies that have skin, are alive and female.
