WTF ... talk about thinking too much. Sesame Street beats Teletubbies anyday.
I see where your coming from, but you're not necessarily right. Ragdoll, who made the Telebubbies, have a new pre-school childrens program called In The Night Garden. This is, if anything, more spaced out than the teletubbies - The firrst time I watched it I just sat there, jaw agape, thinking "What the hell...". Then I looked at my three year old boy and he was absolutely rivetted - giggling and really paying attention. No other program captues him that much. My eldest was the same all those years ago with the Teletubbies.
What Ragdoll are doing is speaking to their target audience in a language that they understand. They must have spent a whole load of time researching this, and if you, as an adult, don't get it then so what - you're not meant to. I've got a lot of respect for these people.
On the other hand - I wish I could get my five year old to watch more of the Sesame Street videos that she's got. They really helped my eldest to learn to read and to maths. (Shame all of the spelling was American!!! )
An ounce of image is worth a pound of performance.
You know those
Charlie Brown/Peanuts special
were nothing but communist propoganda
Amazing someone could twist S.S. into a horror show.
Letting kids watch Family Guy, The Hills, and Project Runway
are way more valuable to the 21st Century child.

Let me get this straight.
So white-middle class Americans have been told by their Television sets to be fearful of:
1. Mexicans/Latinos from the South bringing drugs and killings n' shit.
2. African Americans cause mos def they are raging a race war and want to occupy America like how the plebs occupied Wall St.
3. Iranians/Afghans/Any one of middle eastern origin to be quite frank, cause you know Islam...
4. North Koreans/Chinese cause you know everything...
