Ok i ve figured out those are different types of connection sound card to a computer:
      sound card - PCI
      audio interface - USB
firewire - firewire (is it appropriate to use usb to firewire adapter? Can it affect perfomance?)
Which ports are most useful?, I am cofused: 1/4",RCA...i cannot chose audio interface because i don't know which schemes of connection i will use. I can connect audio interface to speakers, can't i?(which connectors are usually used on both sides?) Why is it sometimes proposed to to connect speakers via mixer?
Also i will use MIDI Controller (why controller? what the difference between controller and keyboard?) .

i never even knew there would be a an USB to firewire adapter. I wouldn't use one anyway. As firewire has always been better.

usb is serial which can cause problems when much data is needed to be transfered at the same time as it takes time for that data to travel down one wire, dont quote me on this but i think firewire is parallel which meens the data travels down more than one wire @ the same time which meens that these wires are not as clogged with data, pci is onboard the mother board which meens u will have to by a pci card and insert it into your computer which is actually pretty easy but pci data rates peak off @ about 133 MB/s where firewire ( 400/800 Mbit/s ) and usb ( 480 mbit/s usb 2 rate ), usually pci cards also have crap digital converters but if ur willing to spend a fair amount of money on buying a decent card then u will get good results

i wouldnt advise using an adapter for firewire to go into usb if there is such a thing but instead u could purchase a firewire pci card and insert it into the computer if u dont have a firewire already on the motherboard

yeah i've got all 4 of my USB ports connected when working on music. And I can hear the problems that arise. Soon I'm looking to upgrade to a Mac and then get a MOTU traveller, or 828.
